Hitter, I hope you’re right; but strongly doubt it. what roster the money is spent on makes absolutely no difference to the Wilpons who most likely gave Sandy a $$$ value parameter for the 2011 operations budget which most likely includes ALL payrolls MiLB & MLB incl coaching staffs & special instructional invitees. how Aldersron disperses it is likely his purview alone, only fans & stastistician/accountants get caught up in the task assignment for those $$$. If “operations” spends $$$ on Minor league signings,frontoffice personnel additions or office supplies or 40 man roster additions is transparent to the bottom line P&L statement.

To be fair, Chris Young was bashed in the face by an Albert Pujols line drive in 2008, I wouldn’t chalk that one up to injury-prone

Not exactly 62. A lot of Sandy’s moves this offseason has been minor league deals so I’m sure Sandy still has a lot of money left to work with to acquire Tim Byrdak, David Riske, and Justin Duchscherer to major league deals. It’s not like they’ll be asking for a lot for one year anyway.

I like the signing, because if the Mets face Derrek Lee and the Orioles, I trust Chris Young will throw the same punch!

But seriously, its a good signing because they didn’t overpay a cent. It cost the farm system nothing, and the Mets had an agenda, and covered all those areas.

The fan in me goes no Cliff Lee argh stupid team. The logical thinking blogger says…well, they haven’t committed themselves deep into next year and can make plays for better long term starters.

North, I’m thinking 5M is an estimate based upon Omar/Phillips era dynamics; more likely 3M range and simply put replacing Pereez(L) & Maine(R) in the rotation with Capuano(L) & Young(R) can’t possibly be thought of in anything but positive terms.

trhat’s the framework for evaluation Perez & Maine replacements not frontend expectations think of it as replacxing an old Ford Festiva with the same year Honda Civic. Barely functional by functional.

All you guys raving about Young had better never ever complain about Jose Reyes’ injury history afgain. Young has been injured for not one not two but three straight years. Would you be happy bringing back Maine???? You know you wouldn’t, and this guy has been damaged goods for just as long. And even when supposedly health before then he never came close to pitching 200 innings.

Extreme flyball pitchers = good for Citi Field. Just don’t pitch them at Citizens Bank Park.

I do agree with the fact that the Mets should get atleast acouple more arms to help out. I think that by doing so, it gives the Mets alittle more insurance for the rotation.

And they were hamstrung on the 40 because there are guys that shouldn’t have even been added to it. Mejia and Tejada couldn’t be poached by rule 5 until 2012 and they should never have been brought up here in the first place. If we had more roster spots we could have done more things.

Not big on Penney or Millwood either and I’m really wondering if we are EVER going to have a long term solution in RF and please don’t tell me Duda, he’s gonna be playing 1B because Sandy loves the power and has nothing to trade of long term value other than Ike, unless he wants to do a trade and sign with someone for Reyes.

Padres got back what projects to be a #2 starter, but Fuentes in CF is a high ceiling raw type player, could go either way. The first basemen is safer but low ceiling. Better than 2 picks in my opinion and not just because they’ve already gotten their signing bonuses.

For us to make a trade that would bring anything useful back is virtually impossible. Beltran and Reyes have to be playing well again, K-Rod, Castillo, Perez and Bay are untradeable. About the only player that would draw interest is Ike or on a smaller scale Thole. closing one hole and opening another isn’t going to get us anywhere.

players are going to get cut in a couple of months and maybe we’ll take some salary dumps and get the better end of the trade for a change come July and if Beltran’s playing well we might get something decent.

the spend a little more concept is fine,but really, there was very little to spend it on. taka was reported to be holding out for 3 years in the short window the mets had to sign him. He only took 2 years when the market did not develop for him,but at that point, the mets were out of the mix.

penny is almost as much of a risk. And Wang didn’t throw a pitch last year, so how can he be better?

Garland was about the only guy that really fit the profile, and he seemed locked into the west coast. Sure you could offer an Ollie sized deal, but do you really want that?

Maybe you could have gone after Martin to punch up catcher? that would be an extra $5mill. Hudson for 2B for 2-3 years?

beyond that, the pitching pickings were just so slim, and since they all seem to be risky, Sandy’s choices probably have as good a shot as any of the others of being productive.

and contrary to popular opinion, the FO did not do “nothing”. they added players to fill the open spots on the roster.

yeah I thought the Chin MIng Wang deal the Nats did was great. Only 1 million. The incentives can come off the books next year and you have to pay him then it worked out! True another injury reclamation project but he was real good more recently.
