What Would Bay and Wright Say If They Got The Chance?

An interesting tweet from Rustin C. Dodd, a writer for kansascity.com via MetsBlog that really makes one wonder.

Best Royals quote of 2011 so far? Jeff Francoeur on hitting in the Mets’ spacious park: “Citi Field is a damn joke.”

No current Met has ever had anything negative to say about the vastness of Citi Field, but plenty of players from visiting teams and Mets that have since departed have had plenty to say and most of it isn’t good.

That said, most of the Mets hitters have hit better at Citi Field than they have on the road, particularly David Wright and Jason Bay.

  • I liked what he should have brought to the table. He just did not.

  • I think that maybe if Frenchy hadn’t been swinging for the fences every single at bat that he could’ve used Citi Field to his advantage the way Wright and even Bay do. Singles, doubles and triples are all just as good! Granted, he’s not a speedy guy… but play to your strengths and understand those strengths in your home ballpark. That’s why some of your former teammates are finding success here Jeffy!

  • i cant say i am fine with callin citi a joke by any1 but im not surprised by such a quote. citi is a pitchers park sorry frenchy

  • Wow. I’ll tell you who the real joke is.

  • bay was on the michael kay show about two weeks ago, and kay grilled him on this subject. bay basically said that although every hitter would like to hit in a bandbox, the park is the same for both sides and the mets had a pretty favorable home / road split, so you live with it and move on. kay was being a bit of a jerk about it, trying to force bay to put the park down, but bay didn’t really give in.

i’m sure they all think it’s a joke, but fenway would also be a joke if it wasn’t 100 years old.

    • wow, Kay being a little Yankee shill trying to get a Met to trash CitiField. In other surprising news, the sun rose in the East this morning.

  • Seriously? We are listening to Frenchy? The dude is a bad week away from playing in Honduras.

  • Did I read that right? Jeff Francoeur calling something a joke? Look in the mirror buddy.

  • Francoeur blaming Citi Field for his own failure to get on base, produce runs, and drive in runs, is the biggest effin joke of all time!!!

  • Dear Frenchy,

Sorry for being the sole reason you went from “The Natural” to “The Fourth Outfielder for Kansas City.”

    Sincerely,
    CitiField

    • PS Sorry for also being the reason you burned out in Atlanta as well.

    • Now THAT is funny.

  • Who cares what he says? The guy is a joke as a player. He is a fraud.

  • I would wonder if this quote was taken out of context (i know that feeling). Did he say anything else? Was there a complete interview?

    • I get what you’re saying, because I think a LOT of the “controversy” in sports is journalists taking one snippet of a full conversation, but it’s hard to picture a context where “Citi Field is a damn joke” isn’t bitter and coming from the least qualified person to talk sh** in baseball.

  • But what did Cattalanotto say about it?

    • russell, awesome

  • Citizen’s Bank Park is the real joke in MLB.

  • You totally suck Francoure and are the worst Mets hitter ever! Have fun sitting on the bench in Kansas City you loser!

  • I am a fan of Ted Berg but his post today in his reply to what Frenchy said seemed like maybe a bit over the top. To me at least.

“Honestly. At this site and many others, we laugh at your expense because you’re so bad at hitting and so good at somehow staying in the Major Leagues.”

    -Ted Berg

    • I mean, he was the worst “full-time” corner outfielder in the sport of baseball last year, and yet even when he was riding the pine in Texas, journalists were slobbering on themselves to get a sound bite from him.

KC might be his last stop if he doesn’t have some sort of miracle turn-around. And I can understand why Ted took a more aggressive tone: this dude is SO bad and yet he runs his mouth SO much and still gets praise for being a “good clubhouse guy.” It’s frustrating.

  • Frenchy is, was and always will be a bust! He needs to move on and if he is lucky become the platoon player or late innings defensive replacement he is, and shut up. With his size there is and was never a reason he couldn’t hit at least 265 with 25 hr’s..Sadly he can barely hit water after falling out of a boat in the middle of the ocean. I say good riddance to a fringe player.

  • Francoeur lead the league in overswinging, though. What a disappointment. If he knew what the gaps were in a ballpark, he might hit .280 and might still be a Met. Or Brave.

  • Thought you guys might find this interesting..It is a list of every major league stadium and how easy or not easy it is to hit homers there.

I hope the Yankees never run out of money to buy good pitching because if they do…You will see an empty stadium in the bronx.

    • I had forgotten all about that espn page. Thanks Mark this time i’ll bookmark it so I won’t forget it. ;-)

    • Thats a cool resource, thanks.
