Tim Teufel Officially Named Bisons Manager
As first reported by Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News, Tim Teufel has officially been named the manger of the Buffalo Bisons. The move was expected, but had not been announced until today.
Terry Collins will be on hand as the keynote speaker at a luncheon to precede the press conference.
Cold and frigid is the forecast but it’s plenty hot for baseball today for the Bisons as they host their annual Winter Hot Stove Luncheon in the Adam’s Mark. New Mets manager Terry Collins, the Buffalo Baseball Hall of Famer, will be the keynote speaker. Prior to the luncheon, the Bisons will hold a press conference to introduce Tim Teufel as their new manager.
As we reported weeks ago, Teufel is getting promoted from Double-A Binghamton to take over the Herd with Ken Oberkfell gone to New York to join Collins’ staff. Teufel shared the second base duties with Wally Backman on the Mets’ 1986 World Series champions. Backman, who managed Class A Brooklyn last year, will be taking over Teufel’s old job as manager in Binghamton.
I was a little surprised that Teufel didn’t warrant as much attention or consideration for Mets manager during that whole search process.

Teufel didn’t warrant consideration or attention to be the Mets manager because he has had virtually no success as a minor league manager and has absolutely no major league coaching experience. In 8 seasons of minor league managerial experience, he has had 2 above .500 seasons…the last of which was in 2004, which was also the last season one of his teams finished higher than 4th place. He is slightly less qualified to manage a major league team than Wally Backman.
I’m glad to see Teufel get the promotion to AAA manager I hope that him being the AAA manager helps in the development of Capt Kirk who i expect to be in AAA to start the season.
