RHP Rodrigo Lopez Chooses Braves

Updated Post 9:00 PM
I hate to break this to you, but sadly right-hander Rodrigo Lopez has agreed to sign a minor league contract with the Atlanta Braves. <sniff> <sniff>
By the way, reliever Elmer Dessens told the Mets he wanted to come back on a minor league deal. They told him to take hike and that they were moving in another direction.
In parts of two seasons with the Mets, Dessens went 4-2 with a 2.71 ERA with a 1.14 WHIP 79 innings that spanned 81 appearances.

According to Jayson Stark of ESPN.com, the Mets have reportedly made an offer to free agent starter Rodrigo Lopez. The Braves and the Rockies are also interested in his services.
According to Stark, Lopez is pondering the three offers, and is expected to make a decision on where to play sometime this weekend.
Just as a little tidbit i found, Rodrigo Lopez is the only starter left on the market, that has thrown over 200 IPs.

When I go through a batter or pitcher I see the Mets are looking at. I go through their stats and look for a good quality as to what Alderson has seen in them. Here is what I found:
As you said, he pitched 200 innings last year.
He has ERA’s under 4.00 verses the Braves, Marlins and Nationals This season.
Has a 3.96 ERA as a reliever career.
The bad: ever since TJ surgery, hes been pretty bad.
He led the league last season in losses, Earned runs given up and homers given up.
In this situation, I say the bad outweighs the good here.
Clayton, the losses mean nothing, and the earned runs were a direct by-product of all the home runs he gave up, something he wouldn’t have to worry as much about in Citi. His xFIP was 4.70 last year, so if it’s a minor league contract (and ONLY a minor league contract), then bring him in and see if Citi Field can’t normalize his numbers. Doesn’t mean much one way or another.
its not just the homers, hes given up 227 hits last year. just alot of the hits end up going much further than a single, they tend to be off and over the wall. Yes Citi Field may translate into a few homers taken away and yes some will turn into flyouts, but many of those will become doubles and triples.
Just dont see it working out
Good point about the park!
That should shave a run off his ERA and in response to Clayton you have to also consider if before his hits went off the wall in Citi they will be lazy fly balls on the warning track!
But I do have to woder if the Mets have set up a recruiting station in the Hospital for Special Surgery!
I mean every pitcher we have signed has had some sort of surgery in the last 3 years!
I hear they’re using the space that Citizen’s Bank uses as a “holding cell” for a surgical room. The Mets are breaking new ground, the first and only team who can actually perform TJ surgeries in-game, underneath the stands!
But seriously, the Mets have a great weapon in their arsenal – the ballpark. I’d sign Rodrigo Lopez’s grandmother to a minor league deal if she has at least a decent second pitch.
Claton, when was that TJ?
2008, and hes failed to have an ERA under 5 since.
Wikipedia says:
López underwent Tommy John surgery on August 22, 2007, and became a free agent at the end of the season
lol luv the “sniff sniff”
worthy of an Oscar.
Good.
