Updated 12:45 PM I’m here at Citi Field where Terry Collins officially tabbed Pelfrey as his Opening Day starter. The Mets open the season against the Marlins who have given Pelfrey problems over his career. I’ll have much more on this and other player news later today. Original Post 11:30 AM Freshly armed with a […]

Weighing In On Recent Mets Flurries

For four weeks nothing but radio silence, then out of nowhere, two straight weeks of pandemonium and when the dust settled we find ourselves a couple of catchers, a couple of outfielders, a middle infielder, three relievers and two starting pitchers richer. Whew… I’m gonna need a few days just to figure out what the heck just […]

Gil Meche’s Retirement: Why It Matters

This has basically nothing to do with the Mets. But it has a helluva lot to do with baseball. So if you are only interested in reading about the Mets, my advice is that you step away here. Gil Meche, once a pitcher for the Seattle Mariners and the Kansas City Royals, announced his retirement […]

An article by posted on January 18, 2011 0 Comments

As our own Hojo’s Mojo reported earlier this afternoon, Chris Young and the Mets have agreed to a deal, thus ending weeks of speculation of where and when he will sign.  It has taken the Mets and Chris Young forever, it seems like, to sign a deal.  But in the end, the signing will benefit the […]

He can earn $50,000 extra in performance bonuses. […]

Finally, the Mets have signed Chris Young to a one-year deal. Rumors of the Mets’ interest had been circulating for much of the offseason, but the deal is done. So with the addition of Young, that begs the question: What should we expect the pitching rotation to look like? In my last post, I gave […]

What I Want To See From Collins On Managing The Bullpen

An article by posted on January 18, 2011 0 Comments

November 23, 2010 is the day that Terry Collins was officially announced the new manager of the New York Mets. I’ve been on record saying that I don’t agree with Sandy Alderson’s hiring of Collins. I’m not going into why again. It’s done. Collins will be the manager for 2011 and most likely 2012. I don’t […]

Johan Santana: He’s Cleared To Throw, But When?

Last week, the Mets announced that Johan has been cleared to begin throwing, but in an ESPN Live Chat today, Adam Rubin adds a little more clarification. Question – With Santana starting to throw already, is there a chance he could come back sooner than expected? Adam Rubin – I don’t know that he actually […]

The Mets and free-agent right-hander Chris Young have agreed to a deal, pending a physical, an organization source told ESPN NewYork. Aaron Gleeman adds, Young has a 3.80 ERA in 752 career innings, but the 32-year-old has never thrown even 180 innings in a season and hasn’t been healthy and effective since 2007. Despite […]

According to ESPN Chicago, the Nationals have acquired LHP Tom Gorzelanny from the Cubs in exchange for three minor league prospects — two pitchers and an outfielder, according to two major league sources. Gorzelanny was 7-9 with a 4.09 ERA last season, and last week there was speculation that the Mets might be interested in […]
