Johan Santana: He’s Cleared To Throw, But When?

Last week, the Mets announced that Johan has been cleared to begin throwing, but in an ESPN Live Chat today, Adam Rubin adds a little more clarification. Question – With Santana starting to throw already, is there a chance he could come back sooner than expected? Adam Rubin – I don’t know that he actually has thrown yet. Actually, I don’t think he has. The Mets announced it as he’s been cleared to throw BEFORE [...]

Mets And Chris Young Agree To Deal, Pending Physical

The Mets and free-agent right-hander Chris Young have agreed to a deal, pending a physical, an organization source told ESPN NewYork. Aaron Gleeman adds, Young has a 3.80 ERA in 752 career innings, but the 32-year-old has never thrown even 180 innings in a season and hasn’t been healthy and effective since 2007. Despite his 6-foot-10 frame and solid career numbers Young has always been a soft-tosser, but his average fastball velocity was just [...]

Nationals Acquire Tom Gorzelanny From Cubs

According to ESPN Chicago, the Nationals have acquired LHP Tom Gorzelanny from the Cubs in exchange for three minor league prospects — two pitchers and an outfielder, according to two major league sources. Gorzelanny was 7-9 with a 4.09 ERA last season, and last week there was speculation that the Mets might be interested in acquiring the left hander. Last month, Mike Puma of the New York Post said he Sandy Alderson asked the Cubs about [...]

David Wright: To C Or Not To C

Kerel Cooper form one of my favorite Mets blogs On The Black, tossed out that age old question that comes up each year right before the start of spring training: Should David Wright be named captain of the Mets? I have never really understood the significance of a baseball team having a captain, and of course there’s no evidence to suggest that it adds to the team chemistry or leads to more wins. I used to get [...]

Mets Press Release The New York Mets today announced that they have signed outfielder Willie Harris, who has hit 30 home runs over the last three seasons, to a minor league contract with an invitation to major league Spring Training. Harris, 32, hit 10 home runs, six doubles, two triples, with 32 RBI while batting .183 (41-224) in 132 games for the Washington Nationals in 2010. Terry Collins Confirms His Lineup (Almost)

We are almost a month away from spring training, and already we are getting some information about the new Mets lineup for this season.  Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com says that Terry Collins has confirmed what appears to be his new lineup for the Mets to the New York Post.  Well, almost.  The reason why I say almost, is because the winner in the battle for catcher and 2nd base will hold the last two spots [...]

The Mets Already Have Their Rally Caps On, Do You?

The last few days have been very interesting as far as quotes go from several notable Mets including Angel Pagan, David Wright and even manager Terry Collins got into the act. All three of them are brimming with optimism for the season that is fast approaching. “With this lineup, if we stay healthy, and we compete on a nightly basis, I think we’re going to surprise a lot of people,…You’ve got some left-handers, you’ve got some [...]

Cliff Lee Underpaid, D.J. Carrasco Overpaid? That’s Why I Say Heyman Nice Shot.

Jon Heyman of SI.com totally infuriates me at times with the joy he seems to get out of taking potshots at the Mets. Some of you may think I’m overreacting, but he does this incessantly 2-3 times a week. However, this one takes the cake as I’m sure you will all agree. Before the weekend, Heyman posted a list of his most overpaid and underpaid free agents this offseason. It sounded like a good read, [...]

Jeff Francis Agrees To Deal With The Royals

According to ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick via Twitter, the Kansas City Royals have signed free agent starter Jeff Francis to a one-year deal. The deal is pending a physical. With the left-hander now off the table, it leaves Chris Young as the top remaining option in the Mets’ price range according to Adam Rubin. Other likely options for the Mets might include Dave Bush and Jeremy Bonderman. The Mets are still looking to sign a starting pitcher according to [...]

From Left Field: And Now We Wait

With the signing of Willie Harris to take over as the team’s fourth outfielder and the high possibility of a Chris Young signing soon, it seems as though the Mets have addressed all of their needs heading into the season. Granted, there are still position battles to be won (second base, bullpen and bench spots) as well as a ton of question marks. Unless the Mets plan on adding another bullpen arm (maybe a loogy), [...]

Yankees Sign Soriano To A “Putz” Of A Deal

Have you ever read or heard something that was so out of left field that it made you pause and do a double take? When I read Wallace Matthews’ article on the Yankees signing of Rafael Soriano, I all but mimicked my 4 month old daughter, spitting my morning oatmeal practically through my nose. It seems our step brothers over at Evil Empire Inc., who were spurned by Cliff Lee and Carl Crawford this winter, have [...]
