A’s Reach 2-Year Agreement With Closer Brian Fuentes
According to several sources the Oakland A’s are close to finalizing a two-year deal with left-handed reliever Brian Fuentes, a source familiar with negotiations confirmed Sunday.
Fuentes, 35, is coming off a fine season that produced a 2.81 ERA and 24 games saves. He joins what I believe could be one of the top bullpens in the league this season.
A four-time All-Star who led the AL with 48 saves in 2009, there were some rumors that the Mets had interest in Fuentes this offseason, but given his salary demands those reports were not taken very seriously.
The A’s could announce the Fuentes deal as soon as he passes his physical.

This is what I mean when I say they should spend just a little more money. Why couldn’t we just spend a LITTLE more to get this guy?? He would have been goood fit for us and he only signed a 2 year contract. Getting him would have definetely made the team better.
I don’t want anybody big….just a couple of guys that would make us better a team.
That a compleltely understandable position. I have to think that somehow there must be more spending issues and concerns with the Mets than what has been reported. I’m not basing it on anything I’ve heard, just something I feel might be at play.
