Some Minor Mets Moves Today

This afternoon, the Mets made room on their 40 Man Roster by cutting the following five players.

Eddie Kunz – A 2007 first round draft selection for the New York Mets

Raul Valdes – Signed as a Free Agent with the Mets after the 2006 season.

Mike Hessman – Signed as a Free Agent with the Mets after the 2009 season.

Jesus Feliciano – Signed as a Free Agent with the Mets after the 2009 season.

Omir Santos – Signed as a Free Agent with the Mets after the 2008 season.

Omir Santos had a few moments during his tenure with the Mets, and Kunz turned out to be a huge first round bust.

All of them have been been assigned to Triple-A Buffalo.

Earlier today, the Kansas City Royals claimed infielder Joaquin Arias off waivers from the Mets. He was the player the Mets acquired from Texas in exchange for Jeff Francoeur this season. Arias played in 22 games and batted .200 during his stint with the Mets.

A Sad Note

Hall of Fame manager, Sparky Anderson, who managed three teams to World Series championships died today at the age of 76. A family spokesman said Anderson died from complications from dementia at a hospice in Thousand Oaks, California.

Anderson managed the famed “Big Red Machine” Cincinnati Reds teams to World Championships in 1975 and ’76 and the Detroit Tigers to a title in 1984. He was the first manager to win World Series in both leagues and has the 8th most wins in major league history. He was elected to the baseball Hall of Fame in 2000.

Rest in peace Sparky.
