Mets Hire Two New Veteran Scouts

Looks like Sandy Alderson has added a couple of new scouts according to Ken Rosenthal.

Michael Baron of Mets Blog wrote a short bio for each:

Roy Smith served as vice president of scouting and player development for the Dodgers from 2004-2006. With the Dodgers, he oversaw professional and amateur scouting, player development and acquisitions. He was hired by Paul DePodesta, who was the Dodgers GM, in 2004. Smith pitched eight years in the major leagues with the Indians, Twins, and Orioles, and was 30-31 with a 4.60 ERA in 136 career games, 93 starts, and a save.

Jim D’Aloia played for two years in the Yankee organization from 1980-1981, and never played above the Single-A level. He was hired as a professional scout by J.P. Ricciardi in 2006 after serving as the CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

It’s interesting that each of them have had a history with Alderson’s two new front office assistants, J.P. Ricciardi and Paul DePodesta. Obviously, both of them are already having a big influence in how the team is being constructed both on the field and in the front office operations.
