A- New York Penn League: Brooklyn 9/16/3, Jamestown 8/12/2, series tied at 1-1, Game 3 tomorrow.
Despite Wally Backman’s best efforts, the Cyclones won tonight, evening their playoff series at a game a piece. Why do I say this? With the game tied in the top of the 9th, and with Brooklyn being the home team, Backman brought in Hamilton Bennett, not Ryan Fraser, his closer, and Bennett promptly gave up a run on 2 hits, THEN Backman brought Fraser into the game. His backup closer, however, was also to blame, as Johan Figuereo got blitzed for 4 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits in 0.1 innings.
The Cyclones offense had 16 hits and a 4/4 BB/K, while going 5 for 14 (.357) with RISP and left 10 on base. Darrell Ceciliani, JB Brown, Joe Bonfe (3), Will Cherry, Juan Centeno (3) and James Schroeder had multi hit games, while Justin Schafer and Wilfredo Tovar took 0-fers. The Cyclones stole 4 bases, Ceciliani stole a pair.
