Pelfrey Pummeled, Mets Lose 8-3

Mike Pelfrey was ineffective yet again today, and the Mets lost the game and the series to the Braves, falling today 8-3.

Game Notes

Mike Pelfrey was hit hard today, not even making it out of the fifth inning. Big Pelf was a Big Letdown today, giving up five runs, with only three being earned thanks to some errors. Pelf struck out one and walked two, and gave up eight hits including two home runs in his four and two-third innings. Something is wrong with Pelfrey, and it isn’t mechanically or health wise. He was revving up the fastball to 96, but he was making too many mistakes, and the majority of them to lefties.

Hisanori Takahashi came out, and pitched one and one-third innings, giving up one hit and two unearned runs, striking out one. Raul Valdes pitched the last two innings, and gave up a run on two hits including a home run while walking one and striking out one. Valdes may be on his way out of the Mets clubhouse anytime soon, with Sean Green, Ryota Igarashi, Pat Misch and a handful of others waiting in the wings with fresh arms ready to alleviate some of the burden

The Mets offense had limited punch today and had absolutely no ability to get on base consistently.Luis Castillo knocked in Josh Thole on a single to center, Jose Reyes scored on a Carlos Beltran groundout and Angel Pagan hit a sacrifice fly that scored Chris Carter. When you manage 6 hits for a whole game, and Luis Castillo has two of them, you’ll have a problem

David Wright, 0-4. 0-15 slump right now.

The defense committed FOUR errors today, with THREE on throwing errors by the left-side of the infield.

Game Ball

*shrugs* Luis Castillo. 2-3, 1 RBI. He’s a slap hitter, and if that ball isn’t hit down the lines or up the middle, he won’t be doing much good.

On Deck

The Mets have a whole day to marinate on this stagnant performance and will face off against the Phillies on Friday at 7:35 P.M. Jon Niese will face-off against Joe Blanton.
