Jeff Francoeur Clears Waivers, Can Now Be Traded

Update 1:30 PM

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, Mets rightfielder Jeff Francoeur has cleared waivers and can now be dealt to any organization.

Trading Francoeur does make sense, but I’m not so sure we will get much for him.

Some rumors are floating that Fernando Martinez may have been called up to showcase him for a potential offseason trade. It sounds like pure speculation and conjecture to me.

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, the Mets placed Jesus Feliciano, Mike Hessman, Luis Castillo, and Oliver Perez on trade waivers this past Thursday.

According to an industry source, the Mets placed Jesus Feliciano, Mike Hessman, Oliver Perez and Luis Castillo on trade waivers Thursday. Those waivers expire Monday.

Any of those players who pass through waivers could conceivably be traded to any team.

However, if any player is claimed, the Mets can pull the player back or trade him to the team that claimed him.

I think both Castillo and Perez will pass through waivers without any claim, at which point the Mets will probably keep them, or surprise us all and release them.  Wishful thinking on my part…

Jon Heyman of SI.com just tweeted that the Mets are not currently involved in any trade talks and that nothing is forthcoming.
