John Maine The New Tenant Of The Doghouse
It looks like John Maine’s career with the New York Mets and perhaps in baseball is close to coming to an end. The last 2 seasons have been a disaster for the pitcher. I have defended him many times on this site and others. I don’t exactly know why but I’ve always had a bit of soft spot for Maine. Maine is a guy who always wants to pitch no matter what. Maine expects a [...]

The French Revolution Part Deux
Matthew Artus of the excellent Always Amazin blog on NJ.com, caught my attention with his post this morning. The subject was Mets right fielder Jeff Francoeur, which is always a popular topic here on MMO. I figured that some of you might like to weigh in on his blog. Here is part of what he says, and you can read the entire piece here. At the moment, Jeff Francoeur’s the everyday right fielder for the Mets because [...]

MetsMerized Player Of The Week! (Week 11)
The Mets looked strong once again last week but lost the last two games of their road trip to the Yankees, posting a 7-2 road trip overall. Santana got victimized by a Grand Slam (again!) and that made the start look a lot worse than it probably was. Beltran’s rehabbing, Mejia’s in AA, and Parnell looks to make his return to the MLB in a move that I have to question slightly. Anyway, on to [...]

First-Half and Second-Half Santana: Myth or Reality?
I’m sure like most of you, I was tickled orange-and-blue when Johan Santana was traded to the New York Mets in the offseason leading to the 2008 season. I have a few friends who were from Minnesota who did warn me, however, that Santana takes a while to “warm up” during the season. Expect a not-so-dominant first half, but he finishes strong second-half. I thought – pshaw! That would all change. I mean, wasn’t the [...]

Summer Begins… 5 Reasons Why The Mets Can Win…
Happy first day of summer to all Met Nation. We are actually talking about a very good summer where the Mets are concerned. This team is alive and vibrant and ‘returning home’ after a 7-2 road trip. The 2 losses to the Yankees notwithstanding, this road trip was a huge success. It improved the standing of the club in the standings, and may have actually assisted in making believers out of ownership, the front office, [...]

A Few Bad Pitches, A Few Bad Swings…
Cue in the morning after the storm… The morning after the final chapter in the 2010 subway series has concluded and after all is said and done, the Mets and Yankees have drawn even after six games played. Looking back on the 2010 Subway Series as a Mets fan, one can only think about what transpired, what may have been, and what effect the recent three game series will have on the Mets success here [...]

Barajas And Blanco…The Perfect Catch
In a recent Metszilla post (20/20 hindsight ) Jay looked into this past off-season and some of the free agents that general manager Omar Minaya decided to pass on. He went on to make the following statement about the non-signing of Bengie Molina, who was seeking a 3-yr deal worth roughly $20 million: As quick as we are to look at guys like Perez and loathe Minaya for making that deal is as quick as we should be ready to praise him for [...]

Is Mets Offense Only Ones To Blame For Santana’s Record?
I’ve given this careful consideration and have come to a conclusion. I love Johan Santana, but I’m not so sure that the lack of run support is the only reason for his disappointing record this year. Granted, the Mets didn’t score a single run in yesterday’s game. So no matter how good or bad Johan would have pitched, the Mets still can’t win if they don’t score runs. So the Mets didn’t score any runs. [...]

Jose Reyes Is The Leader Of The Pack
Look in the dugout during a Mets game. If you see Jose Reyes smiling, laughing and dancing, you know the Mets are winning and contending. If you see him anyway else, they are probably losing. We saw it happen in 2006. Reyes led the Mets with 194 hits, batting .300. He hit 37 doubles, 19 triples and 16 home runs. Oh, and least I forget he stole 64 bases. The end result was 97 wins [...]
