Sorting Out The Mets Bullpen

My name is John Delcos and this is the first of many posts for Mets Merized Online. Some of you may remember me from my days as the Mets beat writer for The Journal News. I have since started my own NY Mets project entitled the John Delcos New York Mets Report. Me and Joe D. will now be working together to bring our readers even more relevant team news and improved content on the New [...]

Mikey J’s Trip to Miller Park

Let me start out by saying that I thoroughly enjoyed myself at the game in Milwaukee on Sunday, in which the Mets salvaged a game and avoided a sweep to a team that previously had a horrible home record.  We recently moved to Madison and a friend with Brewers season tickets invited my wife, 2-year old son and I to the game.  In addition to the outcome being awesome, there were several other observations I [...]

Ollie, Ollie, Oxen Free???

I may be a day late and a dollar short (it’s been a crazy week for me) but I couldn’t resist weighing in on the Oliver Perez story anymore.  And so, this is my message to him: Dear Mr. Perez, I used to be your fan.  But now, I can’t stomach you.  You can’t pitch your way out of a paper bag.  What gives you the audacity to decline a minor league assignment?  No one [...]

Bringing Back Ty Wigginton and Adding Kevin Millwood

According to Dan Martin of the New York Post, righthander Kevin Millwood and super utility man Ty Wigginton are open to playing for the Mets if the Orioles become sellers between now and the trade deadline. Martin says that despite his 0-5 record, the 35-year-old Millwood has pitched well in his first season with Baltimore. He currently has a 3.89 ERA this season with a 1.27 WHIP and 58 strikeouts in 74 innings pitched. “I wouldn’t mind pitching [...]

MLB Draft Preview: Outfielders

Yesterday we featured the Left-Handed Pitchers available in the 2010 MLB Draft, and Monday was the talented pool of Righties. Today, we’ll look at the outfielders. Bryce Brentz: Bryce is one of the best bats in this class. He will end up as a corner outfielder. He’s played some center, but he’ll likely be a permanent corner. But if you draft Brentz, you’re not looking at his defense. Brentz packs power. the junior from Middle [...]

Pelfrey Shuts Down Pads, Mets Win 4-2

After the horrible 18-6 bashing at the hands of the Padres yesterday, Mike Pelfrey went 8 innings to help guide the Mets to victory, 4-2 Game Notes Mike Pelfrey went to the mound today and had a plan from the beginning of the game, going 8 innings striking out 8 and walking 2, and giving up a run on 4 hits. All of Pelfrey’s pitches were working tonight as he was striking out lefties with [...]

Alex Cora’s Option Vests After 80 Appearances

This afternoon, Adam Rubin, Mets beat writer for ESPN NY, had a live chat and one of the more interesting things that came out of it was some information regarding a vesting option that Alex Cora has in his contract.  Q – Doesn’t Cora’s option vest with 80 starts, not 80 appearances? It’s bad enough with 80 starts, you’re freaking me out with the 80 appearances thing A – I asked Alex yesterday, and he [...]

Who Is Public Enemy #1 For The Mets?

“I want to keep doing the same…keep working…I feel better. I know it’s hard being in the bullpen and coming to the games, so I have to get used to it. I know everything is going to get back…Like when you’re not hitting, that can come in one game. Everything can start doing well. This is baseball…You have to keep positive and keep working. I’m around here and I know what I have to do [...]
