Mets Need Early Deadline Help For Pennant Chase…

So many times this season, the Mets have been in fitful starts and stops. The streakiness of this team would make a nudist blush. The many ‘in house’ adjustments to their roster has resulted in positive reviews from around the blogosphere and the print media, and had positive effects on the team and it’s production. The numbers don’t lie, this team is much better without OP and Maine in the rotation. Omar Minaya has been handed [...]

A Mets “Magic Moment” Turns 30

The date June 14th, as a sports fan, holds significance for me personally.  Sixteen years ago today, the New York Rangers beat the Vancouver Canucks in a seven game series on home ice to end their then-54 year Stanley Cup drought.  I always remember dancing in the streets (literally) by Madison Square Garden with fellow Rangers fans, high-fiving cops and chanting on the train ride back to the Jerz. I have always described myself as [...]

Mets Should Act On Oswalt

Just because Roy Oswalt told a friend he would accept a trade to the Mets doesn’t mean he’s in Manhattan on the off-day looking at apartments. Depending on what “friend” you talk to, Oswalt would also accept trades to Philadelphia, St. Louis, the Yankees and Washington Nationals. However, if it means getting out of Houston, a chance at the playoffs and perhaps an extension, the list of places suddenly favorable to Oswalt could grow. The [...]

Maine Closing In On Return To Mets

In a rehab start for Double-A Binghamton yesterday, John Maine pitched four scoreless innings allowing just one hit and two walks, while striking out five. According to Anthony Coleman of the Trenton Times, Maine’s velocity topped out at 88 mph. Maine didn’t seem too concerned. “I don’t really worry about velocity. It’s just looking at swings, seeing how they react. It was OK, I guess.” However, according to Andy McCullough of the Star-Ledger, Mets manager Jerry [...]

Is The Mets’ Success An Aberration Or The Real Deal?

Well, the naysayers have been silenced, at least, for the moment. This recent surge by our Amazins does bring about the question if we are witnessing the competency of a winning team that is jelling and playing the game the right way or something more like a sudden thunderstorm that drops feet of water on the ground and then just as suddenly passes. Some may look at the departure of GMJ as a help in those [...]

Mets Extend Win Streak To Four, Beat Orioles 11-4

The Mets extended their winning streak to four games with today’s 11 to 4 win over the Orioles this afternoon at Camden Yards in Baltimore. For the first time since May of last season, the Mets have won three games in a row on the road and for the first time since September of 2008, the Mets have swept a three-game series on the road. Game Notes Although Mike Pelfrey had somewhat of an off [...]
