An Ode To Mets Opening Day

This is what happens when you wake up too early and can’t fall back asleep…

Ode To Mets Opening Day

The sun shined brightly on this first day,
As the faithful filled the seats.
With thoughts of yesteryear on their minds,
You could hear all their heartbeats.

It wasn’t long until our ace appeared,
Standing tall for all to see.
And he looked those Marlins in the eye,
And retired them 1-2-3.

The golden boy strode to the plate.
Was his power in decline?
But with one stroke; a mighty swing,
We knew that he’d be fine.

And as the contest wagered on,
Each player did amaze.
And even when they took the field,
They made the routine plays.

And when the bullpen got the call,
We held collective breaths.
But sure enough they did not fall,
For these are different Mets.

And when the game came to an end,
We took pleasure in what we saw,
Those gloomy days of seasons past,
Alas, they are no more.

So come to Citi one and all,
It’s been Metsmerized for you.
For in this season hope prevails,
And these Mets will see it through.

We have a poet laureate too it seems… NOT!
