Sean Green and Bobby Parnell To Buffalo

According to a post from MetsBlog, Adam Rubin, has been told by a major-league source that relievers Sean Green and Bobby Parnell both are expected to open the season at Triple-A Buffalo.
We posted on MMO that this would most likely be the case last week, and this would also suggest that both Nelson Figueroa and Hisanori Takahashi will be on the opening day roster a week from Monday, when the Mets take on the Florida Marlins.
In the same post, Matt also writes that catcher Chris Coste has been placed on waivers.
You might remember that Coste, the former Phillie, was embarrassed to admit he signed with the Mets and made some silly remarks about it at the time.
This looks like it paves the way for Omir Santos to join Josh Thole in Buffalo.
At this point, I doubt the Mets would trade Santos as has been rumored by some…

I don’t mind santos being around, just in case of an emergency. Green needs a lot of work and maybe bobby should go back to the rotation. Hr can work on his stuff there. I like him a lot but he needed to develop his secondary pitches, hopefully they go that way.
How’s this for your 2010 New York Mets Opening Day Roster?
Starting Rotation:
1. Johan Santana
2. Mike Pelfrey
3. Oliver Perez
4. John Maine
5. Hisanori Takahashi
Bullpen:
LRP – Nelson Figueroa
MRP – Pat Misch
MRP – Fernando Nieve
MRP – Pedro Feliciano
SU – Ryota Igarashi
SU – Kiko Calero
CP – Francisco Rodriguez
Lineup:
1. Gary Matthews Jr. – CF
2. Luis Castillo – 2B
3. Jose Reyes – SS
4. Jason Bay – LF
5. David Wright – 3B
6. Jeff Francoeur – RF
7. Daniel Murphy – 1B
8. Rod Barajas – C
Bench:
C – Henry Blanco
2B/SS – Alex Cora
OF – Angel Pagan
Utility – Fernando Tatis
1B – Mike Jacobs
- The only reason I excluded Jon Niese, Sean Green, and Bobby Parnell from the opening day roster is that they still have options available. In a time of such indecisiveness and ineffectiveness with the Mets, I think they need to keep all their options open, meaning that Figgy, Nieve, Misch, and Takahashi make the roster because of the fact that they are out of options and probably would not clear waivers because they have had all had impressive or respectable springs. As far as the lineup goes, I hate Wright batting third, just for the fact that he has been such a good hitter in the fifth spot. I also love the idea of batting Murphy 7th because the pressure if off of him and he can probably produce some power from that spot. Can’t wait till Beltran comes back; then their outfield will be beast. When Escobar comes back, then I have no f’ing clue what they will do with the bullpen. If they stay healthy, which is a big if, they will be a pretty decent team that can compete for the wild card, if not the division.
here are your mistakes.
1. gary mathews over angel pagan.
2. mike jacobs over chris carter
3. nelson figueroa and pat misch over parnell and niese.
I agree, Niese is missing and I’m wondering if Igarashi’s junk pales in comparison to Parnell’s 98 mph fastball.
Takahashi is on a minor-league contract and could be sent down (although you’d have to be crazy to do it). I wish we could send Pelfrey down and let him get his head straight, but he’s out of options. Niese deserves a shot starting, too.
First of all you cannot bat bay, wright and francouer. That’s 3 righties in a row. Thus why murphy must bat behind wright. Murphy shouldn’t even be in the line-up. Ike davis will be up by june if not sooner. Murphy is not an everyday player. Pagan will also be the starting centerfielder. The mets will look to deal matthews for a pitch as they are desperate for an 8th inning set-up man as well as help in the bullpen in general. They might look to deal for a starting pitcher as well.
what is the point of having nelson figueroa in the bullpen? the mets will already have takahashi (lefty) and nieve, both of whom are starters. why have three starters in your bullpen??? doesnt make any sense. i hope figueroa gets rocked again so the mets will change their minds. unless nelson EARNS a spot on the rotation then forget it. and kiko claero better make the team. he was one of baseball’s best reliverrs last year. niese should get the fifth spot. figueroa and misch, well they should be sent to aaa, if they clear waivers or whatever. and parnell should make the team in the bullpen. he was very eefctive as a bullpen arm last year. sometimes having too much competition is bad as it makes peoples mind crazy on making hard decisions.
The Mets need to put all these starters in the bullpen to eat innings when Pelfrey, Perez and Maine get knocked out after 3 or 4 innings.
Ringing the “sad but true” bell for you Danny K.
You guys above might be going a little too hard on Maine/Perez/Pelfrey. Look, they’re no aces, but they will not get destroyed in 3 or 4 innings constantly. (Yes, i’m prepared to eat my words because the realistic part of me kinda slapped me.)
…
I like this move.
Lets face the reality and embrace the horror. Our rotation is putrid and such an embarassment. Look at Maine, Pelf and Perez last sprring starts when they were all at 65-75 pitches after 4 innings. And not for nothing but this guy Igarashi looks terrible and very hittable.
God, I hope you’re wrong, but I often feel very close to your sentiments. I think a short leash on these guys is important.
I’m thinking that by May 15th the Mets are busting down the Reds door offering the world for Arroyo, ala Victor Zambrano. I hope we dont lose a great prospect in the process.
I really like Mike Jacobs hitting 4th and Bay 5th.
IF and I realize it’s just an “if” but “if” Jacobs can produce 23-28 home runs and drives in 80-95 runs with 30+ doubles why wouldn’t you start him at 1st base and hit him #4?
checkout this lineup:
ss Reyes
2b Castillo
3b Wright
1b Jacobs
Lf Bay
Cf Beltran
Rf Francouer
C Barajas
Pitcher
Now this is a competitive lineup! The entire lineup becomes much stronger with a power left bat hitting #4!
I’m puzzled wht the Mets would send down Parnell unless it is to stretch out his arm and develop some form of off speed pitch to return to starting pitching??
When you can consistently throw 97 mph with a moving fastball why do you need a secondary pitches out of the bullpen?
Lastly I am skeptical about any one else other than Jonathan Niese in the #5 rotation spot.
If Jacobs does not start I would think he would be released. Jacobs certainly isn’t going to play 1st base at Buffalo and take playing time away from Ike Davis.
Chris Carter should make this team. You have to be impressed with his intensity and athleticism.
We just need to play .500 baseball in April until Beltran gets back. I’m feeling more optimistic about this team than I have been maybe it’s just the promise of the Spring and all that Baseball spring. flowers blooming rejuvenation bull-crap but…. I’ll take it!
Please Please. Mets go for broke and have Jacobs start at 1st and hit #4. The only way I see the Mets competing this year is if we have a lefty power hitting bat at 1st base and hitting 4th.
I’m not a fan of Bay hitting 4th..
You make a lot of sense with the points you bring up. Unfortunately the Mets worry too much about Beltran being upset with his position in the lineup. There are many different moves in the lineup that make more sense than what they do. They let the inmates run the asylum, and that never works.
Beltran will cry like a bitch if they move him to 5th and the team worries about that. This crap began when they let Kaz Matsui play shortstop over Reyes because they didn’t want to upset him. How did that work out?
Make Baby Beltran bat 8th for two games every time he cries and maybe he will grow up. I still remember him refusing a curtain call because his feelings were hurt that he was the highest paid player on the team and was batting .245 and got booed.
what with al the negativity on beltran? you should thank him and god that he’s on our team. the best center fielder in the majors is in our team. and besides why in earth would you bat him 5th or 8th? are you crazy? he is the best possible choice for the #3 spot in the lineup. and i dont seem to recall beltran crying last year when he was shuffled around the lineup a bit. if i can recall he batted 5th behind delgado and wright last year and 08. and a couple of games in 08 he batted second behind reyes in front of delgado or wright. he certainly wasnt crying was he?
Mike Jacobs is probably not even going to make the team. Murphy’s got the gig at first, and carter should be the final spot on the bench. Forget Jacobs. He got a shot and batted like .200 Time to move on..
I don’t know how sean green still with the mets and I get his demotion, what baffles me is that the mets even screw over a guy that throws 100mph.. can someone please get me dan warthen so I can ask him what exactly has he benn doing for the past 3years?????
