Bringing Mejia North Would Be A Huge Mistake
Jenrry Mejia has been very impressive so far this spring. The twenty year old phenom threw 2 and 1/3 perfect innings for the Mets on Friday in their 4-3 loss to the Marlins. Mejia showed dominating stuff while striking out four. Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that Jerry Manuel said the following when asked about Mejia’s chances of making the opening day roster, “If we continue to see that, we’ll have to [...]

If Sean Green Is The Disease, Joe Beimel Is The Cure
Last year we had the MetsMerized Online Awards and one of the awards was the “Aaron Heilman Award.” This award would go to the pitcher we fans least wanted to see enter a game. There was a choice of Oliver Perez, J.J. Putz, and Sean Green. I clearly voted for Green. Every time Jerry Manuel signaled for Green to enter the game, I knew the win was now at risk. Sean Green may be the [...]

Is Their Any Hope In Sight For Mets PR Image?
As all of you know by now, Jose Reyes is on a plane to NY, in order to get tested for an overactive thyroid. While this is certainly concerning news, even if he has this condition, chances are it will be treatable and he will be ok. What worries and concerns me however, is how inept the Mets front office is at handling information. What other major sports organization, continuously releases contradicting reports and constant [...]

Niese, Mejia, Figueroa Sparkle In Grapefruit Action
RHP Jenrry Mejia and LHP Jonathan Niese both delivered solid performances today during the Mets 4-3 extra-innings loss to the Marlins. Despite the losing effort, the Mets dugout was all smiles particularly Jerry Manuel who was delighted in what he saw from his two young starting pitchers this afternoon. Niese started and threw 2.2 innings allowing one earned run and striking out five. He relied heavily on a new cut fastball which he picked up from B-Mets pitching [...]

The Curious Case of Jose Reyes
Jose Reyes has been a staple on this Mets team for seven years, from the time he was 19 years old. After 2009 limited him to just 36 games, we are expecting big things from Reyes this year. We were expecting more run production, more triples, more swiftness….and maybe a revival of The Jose Reyes Spanish Academy. But, now that spring games have started, Reyes appears to be MIA. Reyes was following up a physical [...]

Is Kiko Calero A Better LOOGY Than Joe Beimel?
You may have already read that even though the Mets just signed right-handed reliever Kiko Calero to a minor league contract, the Mets still remained interested in free agent reliever Joe Beimel. The Mets already have an offer on the table for the local southpaw, but Beimel is looking for something closer to $2 million and the Mets offer is reportedly half that amount. While looking over Calero’s numbers last season, I was immediately impressed [...]

Jose Reyes Scratched Again; Concern Deepens
Only 24 hours after being cleared to play in todays game against the Marlins, shortstop Jose Reyes has been scratched again because of concerns about his thyroid levels. He will be going to New York for further testing instead. Adam Rubin of the Daily News, who has been closely following this story, gives this latest update: It may be an imbalance in thyroid levels with Reyes. He is headed to New York. Test is Monday. Reyes said he’s had no [...]

Matthews Jr for Bronson… Or Not?
It seems the Cincinnati Reds are interested in acquiring Gary Matthews Jr according to Michael Baron at www.metsblog.com. With Carlos Beltran out until perhaps June, both Matthews and Angel Pagan will be battling for time in center field. Could this be the foot in the door the Mets need to make a deal for Bronson Arroyo? Perhaps not. In an update it seems that initial report was rebuked by John Fayman of the Cincinnati Enquirer. [...]
