Comments on: Mets Confirm Jose Reyes Thyroid Condition

Thyroid conditions can be serious, however, thats really if they get out of control and are untreated/undiagnosed for a long time. Reyes is young and has had his health scrutinized constantly over the past few years. If this is a chronic condition, I doubt its a serious one, and it’s probably been caught early enough that with proper meds, diet, exercise, rest that Reyes should be just fine. This may also be temporary thyroid overactivity secondary to an infection or even just all the stress he’s put on himself to get back into form for the season. I really think that the Mets are taking no chances and making sure they fully understand his condition and are doing their due diligence on Reyes. I doubt this will affect him in any tangible way long-term.

Just for info the George Noory “Coast-To-Coast” Radio show tonight is having a Thyroid Doc on to talk about the increasing rate of thyroid disease. I live in Boston the show is on 1am-5am here not sure what station carries the show in the NYC area.

Lol, mex, are u a yankees or phillies fans?? Coz last I checked the yankees had 16 players juiced up for the 2000 world series championship and god knows how many before that, and the phillies of 1993 were all juiced up, starting from the catcher all the way up to the right fielder..

If (knock on wood or anything we can knock on) this guy is out for even more than a week we will be in trouble as it is.. cora and castillo up the middle is a disaster waiting to happen.. plus, having a career 244 hitter in the lineup spells trouble, but don’t tell that to omar, he sees in cora something we dont. Just as he sees in perez and castillo..

It’s weird, I would have thought this would have came up before in life.
I’m not familiar with thyroid gland disorders, though. Maybe it just came up.

Whatever it is, I hope he’s alright.

Symptoms : Those can include loss of weight, hyperactivity, bulging eyes and excessive sweating.

And for the HGH comments…
“McConnell said that Graves’ disease does not have any correlation to thyroid cancer and that use of human growth hormone, which is banned in baseball, does not cause an overactive thyroid.

McConnell also said an athlete with Graves’ disease should be able to continue his or her athletic career without any difficulty. “

What are the Mets thinking?! Don’t treat the hyperactive hormone!
We want a “speedy” Jose! Does this me that after Reyes receives treatment he will “slow down” and steal only 30 bases???!!!
Hhahahaaaaaahaha. I say let his over active thryroid rest in “speedy” peace. After-all his over active thyroid isn’t going to have any short term negative effects on Jose. We just care about his health over the nest 10 yrs or so… Who cares about long term 15-25 yrs! Come on!
