Andy McCullough of the Star-Ledger reports that Carlos Beltran expects to begin playing in rehab games by early April.
By April, Beltran believes he will be able to play in rehabilitation games. Then it would take about a week to 10 days before he could rejoin the club. Acclimating to baseball will be easy. Getting to that point will take some time.
By Beltran’s estimation, if he were to start playing rehab games by April 3rd or 4th, he could be on target for a return sometime around April 16th.
Looking at the schedule, the Mets will be on the road in St. Louis for the start of a three game series. I doubt the Mets would have him fly out there, so maybe (and I emphasize the word maybe) we could see Carlos Beltran take the field on Monday, April 19th ti kick off a 4-game series against the Cubs followed by a weekend series against the Braves.
Beltran firmly believes the Mets have the players to stay afloat until him and Reyes come back.
Manager Jerry Manuel doesn’t sound to worried about the Mets starting the season without Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran.
“I think and fee that we’re in a position to sustain a hit. I think our young players are a lot closer.I’m not concerned, thinking that we’re going to be a bad team. I’m not concerned about that.”
Anyway you slice it, this is very encouraging news and it’s good to know that Beltran is back on our radar and sounding very optimistic and enthusiastic about an April return.

Very good news! I thought he was going back around mid May or early June. I don’t know about you but This “nightmare” doesn’t seem that bad to me lol.
Lets Go Mets!!!
Know what, Beltran, unlike Reyes this is a much more physical issue. Take your time and make sure you are completely 100% before setting foot on the field.
I do not believe that Reyes will be out for 8 weeks. I feel that the Dr was covering his behind. Even 6 weeks is to long time. I’d say between a little over one week or up too four weeks he will be back. And he has near three weeks before the season starts.
I totally agree with you on Reyes.
I Know this is off-topic but.. Jenrry Mejia is getting mentioned in the same context as Brian Matusz and Mike Stanton by Jayson Stark.. known Philly-Lover.

Yeah!
The best news I have heard since the mets got bay, let’s hope he’s 100% when he comes back.. once he does we’ll be fine..
Reyes and beltran are the core of the team, omar minaya better pray this 2 are back and completely healthy, if not his job depends on the result of the team the first 50 games..
It’s wonderful news for anyone who loves first class baseball, especially in this case, for Mets fans including me. I hope he plays within himself until he’s able to go ‘full out.’ He’s a great player, one whom I hope is with the Mets for many more years.
Way to go, Carlos!
“Manager Jerry Manuel doesn’t sound to worried about the Mets starting the season without Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran.”
Given Jerry’s recent ramblings about Ike Davis and Jenrry Mejia, his comments aren’t as reassuring as they would have been in the past. I hope Jerry isn’t slipping back into fan mode. He’s got a ball team to run!
Well that’s great to hear especially after the news on Reyes. I’ve said it all along that Beltran is the key to the Mets season so if he can come back by mid April, then the better for the team and for us fans. I think Beltran more so than Delgado can be the bridge to the Latin players (Perez, Reyes) that everyone seems to always complain about. I always got the impression that Beltran is just as much revered as Delgado was, so I think his presence as a player is very important in order to keep Reyes, Pagan, and Perez focused thru the season. Santana can only do it every 5 days but Beltran is there everyday and is more suitable for the role in my opinion.
