Mets Sign RHP Josh Fogg
The Mets have signed 33 year old relief pitcher Josh Fogg to a minor league deal, according to Troy Renck of Denver Post.
Fogg had a 3.74 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 45.6 relief innings for the Rockies last season.
He also spent some time as a starter in the minors where he had a 5.80 ERA and 16/17 K/BB ratio in eight starts for AAA-Colorado Springs.
He’ll most likely compete for the fifth starters spot or bullpen job in the spring. That can’t be good.
He has been terrible as a starter and yet he chose the Mets because they told him he could compete for a rotation spot.
“The Mets’ rotation is pretty much up in the air, so it’s a good spot to compete for a job.”
His nickname is the “Dragon Slayer”.
I’m not sure if this ends the Mets pursuit of John Smoltz.

Finally, some good news. This is the missing piece. Way to go Mets!!!
All kidding aside, he was signed to a minor league deal. He could compete for a bullpen spot, where he wasn’t bad last year for the Rockies.
Blah more complains from metsmerizedonline. Surprise.
I figure you all you work for Hollywood since you all so dramatic.
Minor league deal. BIG deal.
aye, why dont you go sit in a corner and lick your lollipop in your blue Mets cap. Obviously your faith is blind and you cant seperate objectivity from famdom. Why dont you hang around at mets.com where everything is always peaches and cream? Hojo is spot on accurate about Fogg being a terrible starter, and if the Mets told him that he’d compete for the rotation it’s a terrible idea. This is just another Freddy Garcia, Jose Lima type signing. As for the bullpen, forget it, there’s no room. It’s all filled up. Parnell, Green, Igarashi, Dessens, KRod, Escobar, Feliciano. Also, no need to bash the site for negativity because this site is full of positive posts, YOU CHOOSE not to comment on them. I dare you to find one positive post on MetsFlog that isnt part of an SNY produced video or inteview.

Instead of picking up this guy, why didn’t the Mets just keep Tim Redding on minor league contract instead? Oh, I get it… they’re trying to dazzle us with BS.
Time redding was awful. Not to say fogg isn’t but its just MINOR LEAGUE….the only positive post on this website has 3 replies…the negative ones bashing YOUR team…over 30…bandwagon fans
Perhaps the reason for the negativity is that it is deserved. Mets fans have been waiting with baited breath for the announcement of the signing of an SP to join the rotation. And what do we get…Josh Fogg! Give me a break, why even bother? Any suggestion that he might even qualify for a rotation slot is ludicrous. If he makes into the rotation, be assured, we are really in BIG trouble. You say it is only a MINOR league contract. Why put a has been into our minor league system. Shouldn’t we have upcoming youngsters there instead of washed up glue factory candidates?
If you were watching ESPN today or have been listening to Tim Redding news (believe it or not, there has been a little bit), he called out a former teammate THIS WEEK for “purposely” giving up #756 to Bonds years ago. ESPN interviewed the other pitcher earlier today, and he called Redding “one of the worst teammates I’ve ever had” and further said “you can ask anyone who’s been a teammate of his, and they’ll tell you the same thing.”
More scrubs joining the Mets. Omar Minaya says that he calls the shots, yeah right.
My post was not aimed at defending Redding, but was mocking the signing of Fogg.
The only time Fogg has ever been good is out of the bullpen. Keep him in the bullpen.
He can be the mop up man at best, but you can handle that more effectively with either Escobar, Parnell, or Misch.
with a nickname like dragon slayer he’s gonna be awesome!
His mom was my art teacher in elementary school! Doesn’t change his abilities, but that’s kinda cool. Anyway, it’s a small Minor League signing, no downside, and if he performs well and we have an extra bullpen arm, it becomes a good signing. It’s not a blockbuster signing, but it’s certainly nothing bad.
Dragon Slayer? Rollins and Howard are laughing their asses off.
along w/ the rest of the phillie’s,and me to!! unbelievable
Dragon Slayer? oh boy…..
the rest of the national league are shaking in their clete’s imo he put’s us over the top ! good job omar
More wasted money that could have been used to sign a real pitcher-SAD!
Niese will beat this guy out of the 5th man job. Actually so will Gee-Stoner-Figuera- and Misch. So have fun in Buffalo FOGG.
Actually Nieve will fill the 5th hole. Fogg has a snow ball’s chance in hell of breaking into the rotation. If he gets in that means the arms fell off all 5 of our starters and then it’s a hopeless situation anyway.
Your right about that mask man. Its Nieve’s job to lose.
Again; The strategy here is to load up on as much pullpen help as possible, because everyone and their mothers know that our starting rotation aside from “MAYBE” Johan if healthy, will NOT be pitching into the 6th or 7th inning. So lets welcome Mr.Fogg good or not.
Sad isn’t it. Mets have to sign players off the street to join their team. I am shaking my head right now.
fogg, caralanotto, tatis…..we are all set.
wow !!! can’t wait to get started,with all the new addition’s.look out phil’s !!!
