I say no on Burrell period. Last month that the Mets want Gullien from the Royals with a declining bat and injuries, no f’n way man. The Mets need to get good ones, not bad ones. So far the Braves and Phils are retooling and getting their needs straight while the Mets sat on their rocking chair.

Both Bannister and Meche are far better than #5 starters and viewed that way, despite injuries. Sullivan and/or Reed are good backups.

Do Meche and Bannister really have any more upside than Maine, Pelfrey and Niese?

I think it would be similar to when the Mets brought in Livan, Garcia and Redding last season. Warm bodies but very little to no upside.

Considering Beltran’s knees and bone bruise, the lack of outfield depth in the minors, and the uncertainty in left field this season, I think twice before I trade Angel Pagan for a pitcher who’sd be part of a #5 starter competition in spring training.

Pagan had his peak year for the Mets because there’s very little chance he’ll be the starting LF for us in 2010….and so, his numbers in 2009 are his peak #s. I’d trade him to KC for Meche and/or Bannister, both of whom have been ‘spotty’ (injuries) but have distinct upside.

This is very good news. Could you imagine Frenchy and “Pat the Bat” on the same METS team. They would lead the league in K’s and create a black hole in the middle of the Mets order.

How could Pagan’s value be at it’s peak? He has yet to play a full season and he has always performed well in his limited playing time. If he ever got a shot at an everday job, he would easily post some solid metrics across the board. The Mets shouldn’t sell him short, and if all they can get for him is a #5 starter type, or a back of the bullpen player, or a player past his prime, the Mets should say no.

Pierre was my ‘fall back’ for LF if we didn’t sign Holliday or trade for Crawford. i think Pagan’s ‘value’ right now is at its peak. KC wants him. i’d trade him to KC for some pitching. And go after Crawford; hearing TB would definitely trade him. TB needs catching help and setup guys (don’t we all!).

I agree I would rather keep pagan instead of trading for Burrell,Guillen,Piere or Bradley.

I knew this was false. Burrell is not a player Omar would get. Omar likes well rounded players. He wouldn’t want Burrell beacuse he only hits for power.

Thank god! This would have been a downgrade not an upgrade. Burrell is a terrible option to play the field, especially leftfield at Citi. Not even Minaya would be this stupid.
