the mets are fascinated with people who hit well gainst them. check burrells numbers against the rest of the world. he is a stiff. he did not even play for tampa late last season. and he is the worst LF this side of Dan Murphy

I would take Bradley over Burrell in a New York minute. Let’s stop playing around and just trade Castillo for Bradley and get Hudson in here to room with Bradley!

Well it was Ken Davidoff who first said that the Mets called he rays to inquire about Pat Burrell:

Nov 10, 2009- According to Ken Davidoff of New York Newsday, the Mets had trade discussions about acquiring Pat Burrell from the Rays.
With the amount of money Matt Holliday and Jason Bay are expected to make, the Mets are reportedly looking at a group of alternatives. Burrell, who has one year and $9 million left on his contract, could be one of them. Limited to just 122 games in 2009 due to a neck injury, Burrell hit .221/.315/.367 with 14 home runs and 64 RBI.Source: New York Newsday

i agree. Terrible idea to trade Castillo for Burrell. Pitiful we can’t get ‘anybody’ better than Burrell. Here’s hoping it’s false.
Are people hearing something about signing DeRosa? He’s a decent player. That’d be a nice ‘first step’.

There is simply no way the Mets should get within a 10 foot pole of Burrell. He will be another lousy addition to a lousy bench. Are we intent on having Philadelphia as the dynasty team in our Division? It seems as though we are intent on regressing as fast as they progress. If Omar does this, I can’t describe in a public forum what we should do with him (something on the order of what happened to Jimmy Hoffa actually — just kidding).

I understand the desire to replace Luis Castillo to improve the infield defense. But can someone explain to me why we would want Orlando Hudson for that purpose? I realize some people keep voting him Gold Gloves, but he hasn’t been a positive defender by many statistical measures since 2005 when he was with the Blue Jays.

The last time the Mets acquired a 32 year old 2B whose game was speed and defense oriented they got Castillo. Why do we think Hudson is going to be different? Is it because he hasn’t been on the field at the end of the last 3 seasons, 2 because of injury and 1 because Joe Torre preferred Ronnie Belliard? Do we wish to replace Castillo with Hudson because Hudson has a lower OBP but a higher SLG?

I would be more than happy to bid Castillo’s contract and declining defensive ability goodbye. But replacing him with Hudson seems like déjà vu all over again.

The only way i would be ok with this deal is either burrell gets sheffs role last year (late inning power) or if francour is traded and holliday is signed to play right. Either way if castillo is gone hudson will be in NY in no time. Pitching is the main concern why is dumping castillo so important?

If the trade allows for us to get Orlando Hudson and then we get Matt Holliday for LF then I am all for it. Just because we trade for Burrell it doesn’t neccesarily mean he’ll get any significant playing time. Maybe they use his as a right handed bat off the bench. Look at it this was, we are trading Castillo for O-Dog and Pat the Bat. See now it doesnt look so bad.

In total agreement with you. Who comes up with these things? This would be as abd as when we signed Glavine. Although I rooted for him as Met, I never liked him one bit. But at least Glavine was still effective when we got him, Burrell is hasbeen at the age of 32. He’s done.
