The Final Arbitration Scorecard
When yesterday’s midnight deadline finally came and went, the Mets decided to stand pat and did not offer arbitration to any of their six remaining free agents. Carlos Delgado and Fernando Tatis, both Type B free agents, are not totally out of the picture yet, and the Mets could still opt to bring both of them back. As much as I like both of them, I just think it’s time to move on and change [...]

According to a report this afternoon by Fargo’s Jeff Kolpack, the Mets have signed free agent catcher/first baseman Chris Coste. He writes, Fargo’s Chris Coste is headed to the Big Apple. Harden, Polanco, Olivo, Beimel Not Offered Arby; Could Help Mets
The following players were not offered arbitration today and are free to sign with any team. In the case of the Mets, their first round pick was protected anyway, and they lose nothing by signing a Type B free agent. Of the players that are now coming across the sports news wire, these four players could be useful for the Mets. Rich Harden – Cubs: I’ve been a fan of Harden ever since he broke [...]

Better Value: Schneider 2 Years For $3 Million or $9.8 Million?
It’s all about the “value” Mets fans. Regardless of your thoughts on the Phillies getting Brian Schneider, it’s a solid move for the Phillies who can give the Mets a lesson or two about getting the most value for a player. The Phillies are reportedly paying Schneider $3 million dollars for two years or an average $1.5 million per season. The Mets on the other hand, have paid Brian Schneider $8.9 million dollars in the [...]

Can you guess what the magic word is for this chilly December 1st day? To begin, Toronto starting pitcher Roy Halladay has given the Blue Jays a deadline for trading him or he will invoke his no trade clause according to Buster Olney of ESPN. Roy Halladay, the All-Star pitcher who has been the subject of much trade talk since before the July deadline, will not approve any proposed deal after he reports to spring training, according to [...]

What To Do About John Maine?
This off season John Maine is a potential non-tender candidate and there has been talk that the Mets will non-tender him today, the deadline for offering your players arbitration. The Mets can still sign Maine if they do non-tender him but being non-tendered is sought of like being fired and the club telling you you’re not worth the price you will get in arbitration. I have been a supporter of John Maine’s for the last [...]

What Bad Economy? MLB Salaries Rise To Just Under $3M
On Monday, an Associated Press report by Ronald Blum revealed that the average annual salary for major league baseball players rose from $2,930,000 to $2,996,000. Although the 2.4% increase in salary represents the smallest rise in player wages since 2004, the stage has now been set for next year being the first season in which the average major league baseball player will earn $3 million. The figures for each team were calculated by taking the [...]
