Adam Rubin of the Daily News, is reporting that the Mets have signed career minor leaguer Mike Hessman.
Hessman, 31, played of the Class-AAA Toledo Mud Hens last season and batted .217 with a team leading 23 home runs and 77 RBIs.
The third baseman is adept as several other positions including outfield, and is most likely nothing more than anotherĀ addition for a depleted Buffalo Bisons roster that had suffered many defections since their season ended.
Hessman has a .208 average with 13 homers in 168 major-league at-bats.
He signs a split contract for the league minimum and there’s a chance he might leave and play for Japan.
Yawn…

Or, the guy who has consistently shown an ability to slug over .500 against AAA lefties can get a shot to do the same at 1B if the Mets are deciding to go with Murphy.
You say “yawn”, I say “zero risk, possible upside” move which costs nothing.
If Hessman makes the 25 man roster, it’s going to be a log ass season.
If Murphy is the opening day 1B, it will similarly be a long-ass season.
Murphy is not a bad player. he had a good 2nd half and he can still get better.
WOW! AWESOME!
Daniel Murphy/Mike Hessman platoon at 1st base in 2010!
Henry B./Coaste platoon at catcher
Pagen/Martinez platoon in LF
Awesome! Just AWESOME!
Who said Hessman makes it to the MLB?
Everytime I read about a Mets move lately I want to puke.
Whats wrong with getting a minor leaguer?
Getting a Major Leaguer might be a tad better!
Buffalo sucked last year as the whole team was in Queens. The Mets only have a two year contract with the Bisons, so they need to field a better team next year. This has nothing to do with the big club.
Hessman’s gonna tear it up!
Some of the Mets catcher signings will join Hessman at Buffalo. Together they will try to lift Buffalo’s record, the worst in the International League in 2008, to be more competitive.
So Omar is in Indianapolis as the GM of Buffalo! Who’s respresenting the Mets there, our Gangsta Clown?
