Mets Considering Adam Kennedy For Second Base

adam kennedyAccording to Ken Rosenthal via MLBTR, the Mets are showing heavy interest in second baseman Adam Kennedy, formerly of the A’s.

The Diamondbacks are also interested in the 34 year old Kennedy and view him as a potential starter at second base.

Kennedy batted .289 with 11 homeruns and 63 RBIs for the Oakland A’s. He also scored 65 runs and stole 20 bases with a decent .758 OPS for a second baseman.

Again, the Mets continue to operate with both hands tied behind their back as long as Castillo remains a Met.

That said, I like Kennedy and he’d be an above average option in the number two spot of the lineup. He batted .304 with a .364 OBP against right handed hitters.

Went to my first Mets game, a Mayors Trophy game at Shea, in '73. We beat the Yankees 8-4 and I was hooked. I marched in two Banner Day parades, and before the Grand Slam single, there was the "Hendu Can Do" grand slam - I was there. I've collected Mets memorabilia all my life and started Mets Merized Online to feed my addiction.

  • Kennedy would be a great addition for a couple years but ‘what’ can we get for Castillo?!

  • ———————-What a waste of time all this effort to get a 2d baseman. We have one. He’s overpaid a bit, but he’s an on-base guy who hits .300 and fields decently. Same re catcher. We’re fine there, maybe even better off by the absence of Schneider.

This is all misdirection to hide the fact that Minaya can’t or won’t address real problems.

    • Omar is just keeping the team’s name in the public eye. I think the Mets are flat arse broke.

  • Castillo’s ‘D’ is suspect and his hits are all dinkers…

    • They all look like line drives in the box score the next day.

      • alot of Tony Gwynns hits were dinkers too

  • Kind of unrelated, but Joel Sherman in the Post is reporting that the Mets may be in pursuit of the Royals Meche–an erratic pitcher. Well, there’s Ollie, Pelf, and Maine, so at least this would maintain consistency…LOL!

I really hope they go out of their way to pursue Marquis–great story about him by Ben Shpigel in the Saturday NY Times. Marquis is a good pitcher, strong, and an excellent hitter. Every team he has joined has made the playoffs!

    • i missed that piece on Marquis. His teams make the playoffs? Certainly a goal for us!

  • If the Mets are talking to the Angels for Juan Rivera, i wonder if they also may be talking to them about Maicer Izturis, 2B/3B/SS, whom Angels have as surplus? Omar, BTW, had both guys on his 2004 Montreal team. Izturis is a very solid defensive player and plays all-out.
The Angels would need starting pitching. i know, surely not a surplus of ours….start with Pelfrey, Niese…?
