The Brewers are signing Wolf for three years plus a fourth year option? This is absurd for a guy who is no better than a number four starter to me. I’m glad Omar stayed out of that. One Perez-type signing is enough for one lifetime.

Now the mets are interested in Lowe. They can say they have a plan, but when your plan is to offer everybody two years and you know no one will accept that, then it is not really a plan. Plans have to be realistic. Wolf signed for 27-30 mil. That is almost the same amount we still owe Ollie. It is acceptable to fund Ollie’s retirement but not sign a working starter?

Actually they used Bernie as a conduit to take other people’s money. The Mets have OPM (other people’s money) in their pockets after withdrawing more from Bernie than theactually put in. They are using Bernie as a poverty excuse to put Mets fan’s money in their pockets also.

The Perez thing reminds me of the Pavano thing except for one difference: other teams actually wanted Pavano. The Ollie signing is one of the worst in baseball history. If I were an owner I would be so steamed about my GM blowing 36 of my millions that I would have to remove myself from any proximity to the man, in the event that, for some unknown reason, I had not already fired his butt. I would pay Wolf. If I wanted to unload him in year three I am sure I could do it. A vet lefty to a pennant contender? The Mets do not think like this, however.

Wolf had a nice season, but I wouldnt pay him more than 9 million a year and giving him a 3 year deal is absurd. Theres a reason why he didnt sign till last minute. He is am average pitcher and similar guys can be had for 7 million dollars or so. The brewers are overpaying, and I assure you when Wolf gets injured or his ERA is ranging in the 4.00 that deal will look bad.

Interesting, you use the word “stomach” in your last line, and the ad below it is a grotesque “get a flat belly!” ad. Anyway, I think the Mets need two big acquisitions, will probably get one, and wouldn’t surprise me if they got another. Frankly, if the Mets get nothing and the Yanks get Halladay, I’d have to give some serious thought about getting myself a new hat.

It’s simple, true to Occam’s Razor. When you have two theories that make the same prediction, the simpler one is better. Almost always.
