Mets Appear To Be Only Team Set To Pay Free Agent Jason Bay
The Mets have finally gotten an early Christmas gift, as the hunt for Jason Bay was dropped by one team Friday when the Mariners traded for Milton Bradley. The only thing left for the Mets now is to come to a final agreement with Bay and bring him to Citi Field for the 2010 season.
Long before Bradley was dealt to Seattle, the Mets were without a doubt Bay’s primary suitors. The team is reluctant to drastically improve its offer of four years for about $65 million until the Mets believe another team is in the running.
“We’re still close to that,” a team insider said Friday night. “Everything’s pretty much the same.”
Even though this Jason Bay saga continues to unfold, we can now breathe easier. There was no doubt in mind that the Mets would sign Bay it just continues to be a matter of when, how many years, and how much money he will need.
I have a good feeling that Bay will be ready to sign before Christmas. We will hear much more about this here on Mets Merized Online throughout the weekend, so stay optimistic!

How do we figure the Mariners are done with Bay just because they signed Bradley? If Bradley is the DH, they still have room for Bay. Getting rid of the onerous Silva contract provides more ammo for them to take on Bay. Plus the Yanks and Angels are still out there. I think there is more to Bay than no other teams out there. That is too easy an answer.
Yanks are not interested in Bay and also the Angels need a top notch starter to replace Lackey.
the M’s have Junior as their DH. bradley was aquired to play LF
True.
Yep, you’re tight; the Mariners are probably not competing for Bay. But I’m not ready to say the Yanks and Angels have no interest in him.
The Mets are not going to sign Bay. He and his agent will wait until Holliday signs. Once Holliday is signed, it will open the bidding for Bay to at least two other teams. If Holliday signs with the Red Sox (very good possibility), then the Cardinals (if not the Orioles) will “come out of the reeds” to outbid the Mets for Bay. The Mets will as usual be caught napping.
I think the Sox put their Holliday money into Lackey. I still think we’re in the drivers seat for Bay. Unless he is just opposed to playing here, his agent will at least try to get a higher offer from the Mets.
Mariners had to send money to Cubs in the Bradley deal so they have less money to sign Bay with and as stated Junior is the DH plus they have an excellent CF so where would Bay fit. Mariners have spent quite a bit this winter so I feel that Bay is not on their list so we just wait on Bay cause even if Holliday signs who else is looking for a power bat for LF?
Bay is waiting, HOPING, a real CONTENDER comes to him. But, that’s his fault for not taking Boston’s offer. I suspect he really doesn’t want to play for the Mets. And the way they’re currently constructed, I don’t blame him at all.
The mets will sign bay the cards will get holliday. For once omar is controlling the market. Molina thinks the mets will cave in to his 3 year deal but he wont benjie will cave in to 2 year deal and if they re sign delgado heres there lignup.
1)Jose Reyes
2)Carlos Beltran
3)Carlos Delgado/David Wright
4)Carlos Delgado/David Wright
5)Jason Bay
6)Benjie Molina
7)Luis Castillo
8)Try to sign Nady?
9) Pitchers spot
With all there injuries everybody forgot how good the Mets were and they were in first even with the injuries nobody should count us out.
If we sign bay and molina/barajas here’s our lineup:
Reyes
Beltran/wright
Delgado/beltran
Wright
Bay
Francour
Molina
Castillo (anybody else prefered)
Pitcher
That’s a AL lineup..
It really seems like By wants nopar tof New York. Not sure I want someone who wants tobe here so little. I know they follow the money, but his disinclination is a little disturbing. a sad commentary on the attractiveness of our organization.
Yes, that is the scary part. No one wants to come here (except maybe Marquis). The Wilpons and Omar and their ridiculous coaching staff have discredited the organization.
The Mets should trade for Phillips and one of their pitchers. Trade or release Castillo. Sign Sheets and Marquis. Offer Halliday a contract and forget Bay. Offer a contract to Bedard. Move Maine to bullpen. Sign Barajas catcher. Offer Delgado a insentive contract for 1 year.
Lineup
Reyes\
Phillips
Beltran
Wright
Halliday
Delgado
Francour
Barajas
Santana
I think mets fans will be pleassantly disappointed if Bay winds up here.
Because:
1. He will have been forced to accept a low-ball offer
2. He wants no part of the city oof New York.
3. He wants no part of the dysfunctional mets organization.
4. He will not be motivated in the first years of a disappointing,long-term contract.
5. He really isn’t that good.
