Hahaha. I love that we offered 4 yrs 65 trumping the Redsox offer by a whopping 5 mill. This smells like typical Mets propaganda, knowing Bay will reject the deal and then crying to fans, "hey at least we tried".

But I will say the one thing we got going for us is that in this economy I'm not sure whos gonna jump in and pay Bay the 90 mill he's looking for. I expect that he'll reject this Mets offer but perhaps come back to us once he sees the market. Still, I don't think theres a chance in h#ll he accepts this offer.

maskman you hit it on the head. its gonna take at least 80 mill to get this done.

P.S. I'm not a huge Lackey fan myself. Its actually the one thing I agree with ownership on. I just don't know how you can pay a 31 year old SP, with prior arm issues 5 years at 15-20 mill per. And the fact he hasn't pitched 200 innings in the previous 2 seasons. I just see too many red flags with him.

I think it's pretty obvious that a $5mil upgrade over the RedSox offer will not cut it. The Mets are going to have to go higher. His low end offer to the Sox is 6 yrs for $96. It looks like the Mets arevgoing to have to be prepared to get up to at least 5 yrs for $80 to get real talks going. Another year and another $15 to $20 mil over the 5 yrs or most likely no Bay at Citi next year. Will the Wilpons be ready for that? If he makes a counter offer to the Mets, wouldn't it likely be for the same offer he gave to the Sox? The Mets could then come back with 5 yrs and $80 to $85 mil and see if that gets it done. Of course, the Sox could always agree to go the whole hog. We'll see how Minaya and the Wilpons play this, whether hey are serious or not.

And what's this thing abut no offer to Lackey? Are they only capable of one thing at a time? They're incapable of walking and chewing gum at the same time? Oh that's right, it's Omar and Jeff in charge.

I really hope they continue with Bay, he might be the shot of life to help this team get over the hump especially with Frenchy out in the other corner. The Mets might just have enough offensive power to go with Santana and a Lackey/Sheets/Marquis to compliment Pelf, Ollie and either Maine or Niese.. Id like the Mets to sign 2 of those 3 guys to pitch and have Maine or Perez to come in for relief.. Would make our team competitive if not just as good as the garbage across the bridge.
