This series I believe helped propelled them towards a pennant drive that year but it fell short in the end. Brian is right, that year did have a very disappointing finish. But It was the beginning of a good run for the Mets over the next few years much like 1984 when they made a strong run against the Cubs and fell short. The rest is history. Also, if i remember correctly, Todd Hundley and Mike Piazza were both on the Mets at the same time during that series vs. Houston.
