There’s not much to be happy about this post season, especially where Mets fans are concerned. We have had to endure a World Series that was the culmination of our worst nightmares. No other matchup could have been worse for us than the one that is currently playing out in Citizens Bank Park.
The grizzly matchup between the Yankees and Phillies has even spawned hundreds of Mets blogs advocating who we should root for as if rotting for either of those teams was going to derive even a tiny bit of pleasure. There is no pleasure to be garnered from this series. None, zero, zilch. I’ve grown fatigued with all of the “who you should root for” blogs, and I’m sure you have too.
But with that said, maybe the best thing we can hope for right now is for the Yankees to end this World Series tonight with a win in Philly, and finally put an end this God forsaken torture.
All of you know how much I hate the effin Yankees. Just the thought of seeing them get another World Series ring is such a repulsive and reprehensible moment.
However, there is may be a microscopic particle of joy to be gleaned from a potential Yankees win tonight against the Phillies’ Cliff Lee. I’ll warn you that it’s not much, but it might just be the only solace we can take from this demoralizing no-win situation.
Here are my three reasons why I hope the World Series ends tonight…
1. The Yankees will be deprived of a hometown celebration in their brand new museum stadium. Imagine not having to see 50,000 raucous Yankee fans celebrating with their triumphant music blaring through the $2.5 million dollar high definition sound system. It would be a tiny victory for Mets fans, and a comforting feeling as well, to deprive them of Frank Sinatra singing their victory song while A-Rod and Teixeira run around the field giving high-fives to their arrogant and obnoxious fans. Just the thought of that scene makes me want to puke. We don’t need to have those moments captured on video and preserved forever. (Remember Wade Boggs on horseback?) It’s better for us that this nightmare ends in Philly. Also knowing how classless Philly fans are, we can count on them to litter the field with half-eaten hot dogs and cheese steaks, and maybe one of them plops Derek Jeter in the face. It would be a classic youtube moment that will live forever on Mets blogs everywhere.
2. With a Yankees win tonight, it would clearly put the dagger through the hearts of all the Phillies players and their fans too. To see the Phillies lose three straight games at home would be a devastating blow to their psyche, and knock them clear off their high horse. It will take the wind out of their National League bragging rights. Watching the enemy celebrate in their park would give us some satisfaction (just pretend it’s not the Yankees celebrating). Watching Jimmy Rollins whimper through his excuse as to why the Phillies didn’t win in five games as he predicted, would be a heartfelt moment for Mets fans too. We may even get to see Shane Victorino tear up and bawl, which would definitely bring a smile to many a Mets fan’s face.
3. The best part of a Yankee win tonight is simple. It will finally end this season once and for all and we can all move on toward a better tomorrow. Why let this torture drag on one moment longer than it has to?
So tonight, don’t root for anybody, just root against the Phillies. If everything goes right, tomorrow will be the official start of the Hot Stove season.
METS IN 2010 BABY!

I definitely agree. I cant wait for this shit to end already. This year has been worse than 2007 and 2008 combined.
Fail Phillies Fail!!!!
I’m ready for the winter meetings!
Why dont you all stop your crying and complaining! The truth is you wish you were us. Here’s some advice, either get some real baseball players or just become Yankee fans.
Yeah, Man, I wish I were “like you” kind of in the same way I’d like to eat ground glass w/ a cup of turpentine!
And that’s why I’ll be rooting for the Phillies tonight.
Do the Yankees and Phillies have fan sites? There seem to be plenty Yankee and Philly fans on here. They should really start their own site so they can stroke themselves somewhere else than on here
I won’t even watch the game tonight. I can’t stand either team and cannot decide who to root against, since both can’t lose. God dammit, the Mets had BETTER be competitive next year. I’ve had just about enough of the choking and incompetence. The ‘Skanks remade their whole team right before our eyes while the Mets actully have gone backwards. Not to mention the Phils, who will be good for years to come. We fans need to let them know that we are getting tired of this shyt. When you get that e-mail from the Mets hawking for season tickets that we all know is coming, please respond and let them know that we fans have had enough screw-ups.
Also, don’t forget about yet another march down the Canyon of Heroes for the ‘Skanks. Yes, it’s been a while for them, but us Met fans have had none, while having to endure this day a number of times since ’86. It will be all over NY television and the ‘Skank fans will rub it in good. Once we get through that THEN this nightmare will finally be over.
You have hit the nail on the head with your comments. This has been a brutal post-season for Met fans.
I am sick and tired of our Mets constantly falling apart. I have lived through the Steve Phillips fiasco, Vince Coleman, Bobby Bo idiocies etc.
We need to hire INTELLIGENT baseball people! We need to obtain players with excitement, life in their play. I want players who love to get dirty (Lenny anyone?),who wear their heart on their sleeves. Current Met players are BORING. It is like they are waiting to punch the time clock to get home. I miss 1969 & 1986 players. While I dislike the Phillies, I have to give them credit. They have players who look live they love what they are doing. They never give up. They are the only NL team who could have given the Skankees a run for their money. Even though it doesnt look like it right now.
I am tired of hearing NEXT YEAR WILL BE BETTER.
Please Mr. Wilpon, get your act together. Get your baseball people together, if they cant do the job, out the door!
I knew your reasons before I started reading – feel the same exact way. I emphasize the joy I’ll have in seeing the sad Philthy player/fan face shots. There was a little of that last night, but I want more.
..and if it goes back to the Bronx I might root for a Yankee collapse and sad Yankee fan shots!
Couldn’t agree with you more Joe!As much as I hate both teams, It would be a little bit of consolation to see the disappointment on the Philthies fans faces to lose at home.
You all sound like a bunch of losers because you are a bunch of losers. Met fans and the Minaya-led Mets deserve each other. You’ll keep eating your hearts out for a long time, whether it’s the Phillies or the Yankees who continue to torture you.
Which team do you pull for? Either way it really doesn’t matter because you clearly have no class. I find it amazing how hiding behind a computer monitor brings out courage in people like yourself, but I am positive face to face your tune would be different.
That was an intelligent comment. I am a Yankee fan, proudly, and I root for the Phillis in the National League.
What I find amazing for both you skanks and the Philthies is when you guys lose how small the fan base is, and how winning fills the bandwagon. What you have stumbled upon here is a blog site of REAL fans, that stick with our team win or lose. Enjoy your moment, it will be short lived.
I find it amazing how many Yankee and Phillies fans come to this site just for no reason other than to taunt us. I dont get it. In all my years I have never clicked onto a Yankees or Phillies site and I believe you could say that about most Mets fans. Dont you have anything better to do? WTF?
I’m so used to Yankee fan arrogance and gloating, it means nothing to me at this point. But Philly fan arrogance and gloating is another story. Let the Phillies get blown out tonight (and hopefully play error filled terrible baseball). Right now, I would just love to see the team and their fans deflated big time.
I’ve gone on the record in a previous blog saying that I don’t care who wins or loses. One thing I will ask is that the series doesn’t go seven games. It’s such a childish reason, though. My birthday is on Saturday and the last thing I want is a potential parade for either team on my birthday. That would be kind of a downer…
Your all a bunch of hate mongers! Admit that the best team is going to win this year and dont use the excuses that we bought the world series this year cause lets face it, if you had the money and Minaya wasnt a racist who went after good white players rather then getting stuck with them (church and murphy), then you wudda tried to sign Texeira and Burnett and you wouldnt have choked against the more superior Phillie team. I hope when you get fed up of hearing and seeing us win and hoist the trophy, you change the channels and get stuck watching it more and more! NEW YORK YANKEES 2009 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS! FOR THE 27TH TIME!!
Another ignorant Yankee Fan…………why are you here? You’re team is so great, why would you even bother coming to this site? I guess they never do teach people how to win with class.
Calling Omar a racist is pretty fun coming from someone that says this…..”you had the money and Minaya wasnt a racist who went after good white players rather then getting stuck with them (church and murphy),” NO GM SHOULD GO After any player because of their color – they go after the best players…………I love when Yankee Fans call Omar a racist when the Yankees were one of the last teams to sign a Black player………no racism there – ok and I have a bridge to sell you.
I have no problem getting behind the Yankee’s during this series, its their fans that make it so hard.
Listen, I honestly don’t know what good white players have to do with winning but its obvious this got has no sense or class. Why are you here? I bet you probably have the site favorited, it’s MetsMerized not HeyMetHatersComeOnDown, this is not some site welcoming all fans far and wide, read the headline “DIE HARD MET FANS” and yes the Yankees won the only reason I wanted them to was to stick it to Philly fans. But at the end of the game I realized, when I saw all those players hoist the trophy I gained no satisfaction and I’m sure Met fans can agree honestly we don’t win, you can say whatever you want to Philly fans, but the fact is they are still NL Champs and it’s ridiculous that we have to endure this but it’s the truth. We will not be escaping this anytime soon until management steps up and these players step up, let’s just hope for an extremely productive offseason. I just hope The Wilpons & Omar analyzed this series closely take a look at what real baseball players are supposed to do in the situations they are put in.
Sigh. We didn’t get our wish, Joe…
Sorry guys…..rooting for the Yankees is NFG. Whether your father was a Giant or Dodger fan and they broke his heart by leaving NYC it was like being reborn when the Mets came along in 1962. So he became part of the “Faithful”. Yankee fans are smug and conceited as if to say that it is their birthright to be Series champs every year. They might even say that 26 Series wins should have been 36 or even 56. Screw em all. Yes, the Phillies are our main rival this year but it is not their fault that we have not gotten to the playoffs these last few years. They have been and still are a better team than we are. Hopefully, we will close the gap this off season. Remember that A.L Baseball with their designated (s)hitter was not the way the game was intended to be played. Wussy baseball!
