That's a pretty lame list. Maybe the best strategy is to totally ignore the Boras clients and concentrate on FA's that can actually be signed to reasonable contracts. That means forget about Holliday. Is he actually worth the effort to confront Boras? I say no; use your energy profitably. The rest of the list is essentially forgettable.

Sorry I am just a little confused. Are you saying that I shouldn't assume that the Reds would want more then Castillo in return?

Andy, I apologize for my comments about the Reds not trading Phillips. I just read that they are in fact looking to trade him. With that said, maybe the Mets should go after him, although, the Reds want to get rid of money, so trading Castillo to them would not help the Reds much, unless we included some money.

Trade for Phillips? Are you kidding me? First off, the Reds would be absolutely crazy to let him go. Secondly, if they were that crazy, it would take a package deal that would be WAY TOO much for the Mets to handle, unless it included Wright.

Ankiel is hot and cold and a horrible fielder. Wright's home run numbers are down, every other number is up (something NO one wants to realize). This year was unreal with people out and maybe Wright had no protection either (another thing no one wants to realize, its easier to kill him)

In other words, I'm not sold on Ankiel

There has been some "rumblings" regarding Padre 1st baseman Adrian G.
Granted he hit 40 home runs and had 100 rbi's but closer look at his year end numbers doesn't really impress me. I realize he plays an excellent 1st base and that while that has some value I don't think his numbers are indicative of a player commanding a huge contract offer after the 2010 season.
I see Gonzalez as a good fielding 1st baseman who provides solid power hitting capable of consistently 28-35 home run guy who doesn't strike out an obnoxious amount of times but doesn't hot alot of extra base hits either.
If the Mets somehow did work out A 2nd "Santana-trade-miracle" and obtain Gonzalez I don't think Gonzalez offers that much more of an upset over Delgado even at this point n Delgado's career. I know, people will think I'm crazy but look at the numbers. Gonzalez provides better fileding... and most likely will hit 5-7 more home runs a year over the next 2 years than Delgdo but beyond that..
So here is My predictions for the 2010 and 2011 season for Gonzalez and Delgado:

2010
Gonzalez: .270 avg 37 homeruns 105 rbis 31 doubles 92runs scored
Delgado .264 avg 30 homeruns 110 rbis 35 doubles 95runs scored

2011
Gonzalez: .275 avg 39 home runs 100 rbi's 35 doubles 95 tuns scored
Delgado .250 avg 25 home runs 100 rbis 33 doubles 88 runs scored

2011 will be the 1st year of Gonzalez's new contract. He will command big money from one of the big market teams. We know it won't be the Yankees, so that leaves the Mets, Red Sox, Angels and Dodgers.
My money is on the Red Sox over-paying and signing Gonzalez to a huge mega-contract after being smoked by the Yankees and Rays in the 2010 division race.

Please! Please! Mets ..Sign Delgado to a 2 yr. contact!

i would rather have ankiel than holliday. too much money for a guy who needs protection to bat. we dont have that in our lineup!!!! wrights numbers are down, beltran is not a number 4 hitter. go after ankiel, who would come way cheaper, and maybe try to trade for Brandon phillips. he makes about the same money as castillo. you eat a third of that castillo contract and you could be in a better postion.

the only thing that saves john lackey is the postseason starts he had. he has been injured and you dont give a guy like that 5 yrs. your not going to deal with boras for him so you try to bring it down to 3 with maybe 2 player options and your typical cy young/ championship incentives. regardless of trying to acquire wolf, lackey is still a better pitcher and you need to get rid of perez. he needs a fresh start elsewhere and maybe someone else can work on him, maybe rick peterson in Milwaukee.

resigning delgado could be a possibility because he comes dirt cheap and the guy can still hit.

i really dont know, maybe its a bit of desperation of this team going somewhere, but they are not that far off from actually doing well. a few key pieces here and there can really make this a great team again.

Nady just wasn't a run producer for the Mets - in 2006 with the Mets (and some time with Pitt) he hit 17 hr's which is good but had a dreadful 63 rbi in about 500 PA's - which meant he wasn't hitting with men on base. There are some players - Jeromy Burnitz comes to mind - who have decent years elsewhere but little success with the Mets, particularly in the second go-round.
Add his health issues and its a pass.

Even if the Mets do sign him which I think is unlikely who's to say he'll be healthy coming off of 2 elbow injuries.

Yeaa he might of had a good first half in 06 for us but that was 3 years ago. Plus he has hurt the same elbow twice already I believe in the last year and a half. So I don't think the Mets will go after Nady and the only reason I see the Mets signing him is if all else fails.

I'm surprised that Holliday is the only big name on that list. You know what that means dont you? Expect Boras to milk the Holliday negotiations for the whole winter.

I dont understand why Nady's name is hardly mentioned. I would be happy to have him back, he gave us a heck of a first half in 2006 before we traded him.

Of the players listed, I would like to see the Mets resign Cora. I am sure they will discuss Holliday (at least I hope). I wouldn't mind the Mets taking a flyer on Nady as a possible 4th or 5th OF (if healthy).
