Although I’ve been writing about Lackey quite a bit over the past few weeks, I still believe in Piñeiro. I’m awestruck that in 32 starts this year, he walked only 27 batters. If he intentionally walked a batter, it would be considered a wild day on the mound for him.

If the Mets do get him, I beg Dan Warthen not to change him. He obviously knows how to throw strikes. Also, considering his low strikeout total (105 K’s in 214 innings), when he throws strikes, it’s not to strike the batter out. It’s to get hitters to ground out and minimize his pitch count.

Lackey and Piñeiro. Sounds like a duo running for office. They have my vote!

I dont care who we get between Pineiro, Marquis or Wolf as the second pitcher we sign. As long as we get John Lackey first, that should be priority number one.

Piniero is a very good suggestion…throw him into a basket with Lackey, Marquis, Sheets, and Wolf…and sign the best 3 pitchers of that cohort. Then sign Matt Holliday, Chone Figgins, and trade Castillo for Casey. Voila…we got ourselves a great cluster of guys to cohere with the core and become a very good team that could vie with the Phillies, Braves, Marlins…!

$30 million is not a lot of money for Pineiro, it’s the going rate for mid level starters. The Mets shouldn’t hesitate to sign him after an embarassing season that saw them come three walks shy of the worst team in baseball. Last season’s performance was pathetic and it’s one area that had nothing to do with injuries. Why on earth does Dan Warthen still have a job???

I say that Halladay is overrated!! Mets should most definitely get Pineiro, and if they can get the Wolfman also. We desperately need pitching. Riddle me this; What are Halladay’s post-season numbers??? I’m not sure he has any >:( !!! Yes get Pineiro and the Wolfman; both would be good investments. For the hitting let’s see if Delgado is where he was at the beginning of last season; If he is GET HIM!!! Molina get him as well!!! The Molina brothers are the best defensive catchers in the game today… Oh yeah and our Left Field situation… Holliday if u can get him if not Jason Bay; c’mon he’s great and no-one wants him?!!!! I see your point about the money, but seriously, why should he take that much less than what we gave Oliver Perez? If OP could get 36/3 why shouldnt Pineiro get 30/3?

The bottom line is it would be nice to have a pitcher who could actually throw strikes, not walk a small village in every game, and keep the ball in the park.

I say that in adition to Halladay or Lackey, the Mets would need a second starter and Pineiro would fit in nicely.
