According to Adam Rubin of the Daily News, the Mets will probably look for a power bat in left field and look for a right handed bat at first base to platoon with Daniel Murphy.
While the Mets know they need to get an upgrade in power in left field or first base, I get the sense it will be in the outfield. There’s little sense blocking prospect Ike Davis by signing a first baseman to a multi-year deal. I’m told the Mets likely will trade for a righty-hitting first baseman with a short-term commitment to pair with Daniel Murphy in 2010.
While it’s not an awful idea, it really depends on who the bat in leftfield ends up being. If we get Jason Bay or Matt Holliday I can live with the idea, but if it ends up being one of the lower tier options like Randy Winn or Marlon Byrd, then I’m not sure we accomplished anything.
One available bat that might do the trick at first base is Mark DeRosa.

DeRosa was in the midst of a solid season for the Cleveland Indians and was later traded to the St. Louis Cardinals. He finished the season with 23 homeruns and 78 RBI with an OPS of ,752. However, when you look at his splits, which I posted below, DeRosa has put up some impressive numbers against left handed pitching.
| 2009 Batting Splits | ||||||||||||||||||
| Overall | AB | R | H | 2B | 3B | HR | RBI | BB | HBP | SO | SB | CS | AVG | OBP | SLG | OPS | ||
| Total | 515 | 78 | 129 | 23 | 1 | 23 | 78 | 47 | 7 | 121 | 3 | 2 | .250 | .319 | .433 | .752 | ||
| By Breakdown | AB | R | H | 2B | 3B | HR | RBI | BB | HBP | SO | SB | CS | AVG | OBP | SLG | OPS | ||
| vs. Left | 126 | 25 | 35 | 7 | 1 | 10 | 24 | 10 | 2 | 29 | 2 | 1 | .278 | .341 | .587 | .928 | ||
| vs. Right | 389 | 53 | 94 | 16 | 0 | 13 | 54 | 37 | 5 | 92 | 1 | 1 | .242 | .312 | .383 | .695 | ||
His OPS against lefties is over .200 points higher than righties at a very impressive .928. His homeruns per at-bats ratio is nearly three times higher against southpaws and he sports a magnificent .587 slugging percentage.
I lobbied hard for the Mets to sign Mark DeRosa back in June when I believed he could have helped out at shortstop, first base and even some left field. In June I wrote,
DeRosa would be very high on my list simply because he has the power we desperately need right now, and if Delgado ever gets back, DeRosa can simply shift to another position like left field. He would also be able to give David Wright a day off and fill in at third base if necessary. He’s enjoying a power spike in the last two seasons and is in the midst of another solid season. Has a solid reputation as clubhouse guy and can play all four infield positions as well as corner outfield. He would look great batting second or fifth in the Mets lineup.
The New Jersey native earned $5.5 million last year and at 35 years old will probably get no more than a 1 or 2 year offer.
If the Mets only intend to acquire a right handed bat to platoon with Murphy, I prefer DeRosa for the following reasons:
- It wouldn’t require a long term commitment.
- His cost would not be prohibitive.
- We wouldn’t have to give up any players to acquire him.
- His versatility could help at other positions.
- He would be a solid weapon off the bench late in a game as pinch hitter.
I see very little if any downside to getting DeRosa. We could use his intensity in the clubhouse and he knows how to play the game the right way, a quality that was in very short supply last season.

I especially like the DeRosa idea because he plays so many other positions, that when the summer injuries start setting in, he’ll be in the lineup somewhere everyday.
If the Mets sign DeRosa (2 yrs. 8 million per)they aren”t platooning him,especially with a stiff like Murphy. DeRosa would be a good fit. I think Uggla or Tejada at first would be good moves too.
OLDTIMER? AREN’T U AS SICK OF THIS OJT(ON THE JOB TRAINING AS I AM) LET’S THINK FIRSTBASEMEN FILLING THE FIRST BASE POSITION, NOT GUYS TRYING TO LEARN IT. DIDN’T WE GEWT ENOUGH OF THIS SM MKT CRAP IN ’09 BELIEVING MURPHY COULD ACTUALLY LEARN LF WHILE PLAYING IN SEASON GAMES. AT LEAST HE’D HAD A MODICUM OF 1B EXPOSURE IN BUFFALO.
I like the idea of DeRosa. Even if Davis is ready for the majors in say June/July, DeRosa’s versatility would allow the Mets to use him at 2B (you know Castillo can’t have back to back healthy years), left field, right field or 3B as a back up to Wright. Sort of a Chone Figgins type only older, slower, but with a little more power. AND, he wouldn’t cost the Mets a 1st rd pick in June since theirs is protected.
I was hoping for DeRosa as well Joe back in June. I also think that besides playing multiple positions and being a good bat against lefties he can perhaps help Murphy out with his defense. The one thing I noticed about Murphy is that he listens to you if you want to help. Keith mentioned he spoke with Murphy and Delgado at times worked with him so it can only help to have a veteran help him out and like you mentioned it won’t cost the Mets a lot in terms of $ and talent.
DeROSA IS CERTAINLY AN UPGRADE GLUE TYPE PLAYER; HOWEVER HE ISN’T THE BIG IMPACT TYPE WE DESPERATELY & OBVIOUSLY NEED. A TEAM WITH BARELY OVER 100 HR WILL REMAIN FRUSTRATED & FRUSTRATING. I PROPOSE THEY MUST LOOK TO ADD ABOUT 50HR, AT LEAST 40 BET LF & 1B TO SUPPORT THE PITCHING ESP ON THE ROAD. FIELDER’S 40+ WOULD GO A LONG WAY TOWARDS THAT END.
AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO SEES LITTLE MET VALUE IN DANIEL MURPHY? AND TOO MUCH HYPE SURROUNDING IKE DAVIS? I BELIEVE A RH FLDING 1B IS A LIABILITY IN THE NL DUE TO PICKOFFS & RUNNING GAME. MURPH FIELDS RH.
AS WOULD A RH PLATOON HITTER. RH 1B BELONG IN AL
ASSUMING A MURPH/DeROSA 1B PLATOON, THE 1B OPENNING IS PLUGGED; BUT WHAT OF CLEANUP HITTER? BELTRAN LOOKS VERY UNCOMFORTABLE THERE. IN ’05 THE OFFENSE WAS STIFLED WITHOUT A PROTOTYPICAL POWER CLEANUP BAT. DELGADO PROVIDED THAT IN ’06. THE SUBSEQUENT RESULTS REFLECTED IT. ANSWERS LIKE DeROSA, FIGGINS, HILIDAY, BAY ARE, IN MY OPINION, SIMILAR TO WHAT THIS FRANCHISE HAS ALWAYS DONE, “LOOKED TO GET BY” WITH A BLOOP & BLAST TYPE ACQUISITION POLICY. THE BLOOP COULD BE ANY OF DiROSA,FIGGINS,HOLLIDAY,BAY. THE BLAST IS OBVIOUSLY A HALLADAY DEAL (SELF DESTRUCTIVE BY STRANGLING FUTURE FLEXIBITY). WITH ALL THE CURRENT INVESTMENTS THEY NEED TO THINK BLAST(S).
CONSIDERING THAT DAVIS WAS NOT A FIRST ROUNDER TO BEGIN WITH, EXPECTING HIM TO PROGRESS QUICKLY MAY BE TOO OPTIMISTIC.
You realize Fielder catches with the same hand as Murphy?? Id love the Mets to trade for Fielder and let Ike learn to play the outfield in the minors.But i still think the priority has got to be pitching 1st-defense 2nd then hitting.i,e Halladay-Molina-barajas)Hudson,then Bay or holliday.
I REALIZE FIELDER T/R,B/L; BUT MURPH WON’T HIT 40+HR OVER NEXT 3 SEASONS. LET ALONE 1. HALLADAY DEAL WOULD CRIPPLE US WITH NO PROSPECTS & NO PAYROLL FLEXIBILITY WITH 3 HUGE CONTRACTS ALL W/NO-TRADES(BELTRAN,SANTANA,HALLADAY) HAKLLADAY WILL DEMAND JOHAN, CC DEAL & ONCE U TRADE AWAY FARM HOW DO U SAY NO. HE’S 2Y OLDER THAN JOHAN.
I like the idea of signing Derosa also.I would like the club to also sign Figgins.That way the Mets can spend all their big money on Lackey,Marquis and the trade for Halladay.
great idea, hes one of those everyday utility guys, so like someone else said, he can play other positions when the injuries come too.
I’m in favor of signing Mark DeRosa.
DeRosa is a local product and is like a larger, healthier version of Tatis. He would certainly provide reliable, durable veteran leadership with the ability to shift to a number of positions if and when the need arises.
He brings a power bat, the ability to platoon with Murphy at first base and could replace Castillo at second. While I believe Murphy will improve, our overall production from first and second base last year was anemic.
As a corollary, I would continue to develop Murphy as a long-term back-up for first base and third base, and give him a chance to prove himself at second base. Chase Utley has nothing over Daniel Murphy, defensively. If Murphy could settle in at offensively at .310/20/90 per year AND play second base, he would resolve a major issue in the infield.
[...] -Mets Merized Online: Mets Want 1B To Pair With Murphy; Consider DeRosa [...]
Why not sign DeRosa AND trade Murphy? And wait for Ike Davis to ripen in AAA? And go after Holliday and Haliday…
YES, exactly!
MASK, LET ME SEE IF I UNDERSTAND WHAT U R EXCITEDLY AGREEEING WITH, YOU ARE ADVOCATING SIGNING DeROSA,HOLLIDAY, HALLADAY?
TO REITERATE, U WANT TO SIGN DeROSA, TO PLATOON @ 1B W/MURPHY. A PLAYER WHO OVER THE PAST 12 YRS HAS MANNED 1B ?25 TOTAL GAMES? SIGN HOLLIDAY, A BORAS CLIENT, WITH SHAKEY DEFENSE TO PLAY ONE OF THE MOST EXPANSIVE LF IN MLB FOR WHAT BORAS HAS PRICED IN EXCESS OF 20M PER? TRADE OUR MOST PROMISING PROSPECTS JUST TO NEGOTIATE WITH A 33 YR OLD RH ACE WHO’S LIKELY TO DEMAND A CONTRACT IN EXCESS OF 18M PER? IS THAT CORRECT?
WITH THE RECENT ANNOUNCEMENT THAT PETERSON HAS SIGNED ON TO COACH THE BREWS PITCHING SQUAD THAT AMASSED THE MLB HIGHEST ERA 5.4+ I BELIEVE THE VALUE OF 2 FAVORITE PETERSONITES PELFREY & MAINE HAS BEEN INFLATED TO A POINT OF BEING VIEWED AS FAIR COMPENSATION FOR FIELDER’S BIG IN MILWALKEE 10.5M EXPIRING CONTRACT. PERSONALLY, I’D PREFER TRADING THOSE SP FOR FIELDER’S 40+ HR POTENTIAL & SIGNING BOTH LACKEY & MARQUIS. IN BOTH SCENERIOS THEY’LL NEED A #1C WHOM I FEEL SHOULD BE MOLINA & HIS 15+ HR POTENTIAL IN CITI. SINCE I DON’T SEE WILPONS ADDING 40-50M IN PAYROLL AS YOUR SOLUTION WOULD DO WHILE STILL DECIMATING THE FARM SYSTEM. IT’S FAIR TO ASSUME HALLADAY’S DEMANDS WOULD CERTAINLY INCLUDE A CONTINUATION OF HIS ‘NO TRADE’ PROTECTION, THUS SADLING THE METS WITH 3 HUGE NON-TRADABLE CONTRACTS IN BELTRAN,SANTANA & HALLADAY.
MASK? ARE U NUTS? DID I GET IT RIGHT? U CLEARLY WEREN’T THINKING IT THROUGH. UR TOO SMART FOR THAT. I KNOW IT!
62, Changes need to be made to this team. I see DeRosa as more valuable to this team than Murphy because of the difference in field versatility. DeRosa can play nearly anywhere vs Murphy who can play nearly nowhere. In my opinion, Murphy needs to be rolled into a trade that includes several players (not just by himself which would be non-productive) in exchange for a player of value to fill a gap. DeRosa would then be availble to platoon at 1B and also sub at other positions as needed. I see Holliday and Halladay as key acquisitions by the Mets, using logic and a sound approach without selling off the farm to do it. If we can get them without mortgaging everything, I would do it. You have pre-judged that and say it’s not possible. I say balderdash and the GM needs to work to accomplish that. I don’t set limits on spending, because that’s up to mgmt and we learned today in the Daily News article that the Mets are more flush than realized from their near escape from Madoff’s pilfering. So there may be more $ available than envisioned (just like Jeff actually said). In summary, my thesis is to take up Jeff on his promise, set no spending limits, and establish a Championship team. For me that means, no Dan Murphy, and bring in guys like DeRosa, Holliday and Halladay. Argue all you wish that’s it’s not possible. I say let the GM go after them and cut the deals.
MASK, YR COMMENT FOR LUPO HASN’T POSED YET. ENTERTAINING ANY IDEA THAT DAVIS MAY BE READY IN ’10 WHILE TEAM OFFICIALS PREDIC ’11 IS A BIT TOO OPTIMISTIC EVEN FOR ME. A DOSE OF REALITY REGARDING OUR FARM SYSTEM IS LIKELY NECESSARY AT THIS POINT. THE PREPONDERANCE OF OUR DRAFT PICKS ARE SECOND ROUND & LATER SINCE ’05. EXPECTING TO ‘FASTTRACK’ A KID FROM THE LATER ROUNDS AFTER JUST 2 YRS IN MILB IS JUST BEGGING FOR MORE FUNDAMENTALS GAFFES. DAVIS JUST LAST SEASON GOT USED TO WOOD & REESTABLISHED HIS POWER STROKE & U WANT TO TOSS HIM IN THE DEEP END? REMEMBER, EVEN IN COLLEGE HE WASN’T A F/T 1B, SPLIT TIME W/PITCHING. I BELIEVE HE MAY HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN DRAFTED AS A PITCHER; BUT U WANT TO CANNONIZE HIM FOR THIS COMING SEASON? GOOD LUCK! PERSONALLY, I’D PREFER AT LEAST 1 MORE YR IN AAA WITH A 1 YR KNOWN COMMODITY LIKE DELGADO OR FIELDER IN FLUSHING FOR ’10. DELGADO LIKELY GUARANTEED AROUIND 5M; FIELDER’S CONTRACT SET AT 10.5M. IF WE DEALT FOR PRINCE EVEN IF IT COSTS PELFREY & MAINE WE’D CERTAINLY LOSE THE BORAS CLIENT WHILE REAPING THE DRAFT COMPENSATION FOR DOING SO. I THINK THE 40+HR THREAT IN #4 HOLE IS WELL WORTH IT STILL LEAVING $ ENOUGH FOR INKING LACKEY & MARQUIS. FELDER’S HR POP DIMINISHES NEED FOR POWER OUT OF LF AS DOES 15+HR POTENTIAL MOLINA GIVES @ C UNDER REASONABLE 2Y/12M ESTIMATE.
NOTE TO BOBLUPO, YR COMMENT RE. WHY NOT TRADE MURPHY & JUST SIGN DiROSA? WHERE ARE HR COMING FROM? WH’S YOUR CLEANUP HITTER? REPLACING A ‘CORE’(DELGADO) WITH A GLUE(DiROSA) STRENGTHENS NOTHING. A SMALL MKT MOVE PERFECT IN PITTSBURGH OR CINCY!
Without speaking for Lupo, I’ll put in my 2 cents. It’s is a move in the direction of having 1B available for Ike Davis when he’s ready to come up. Why commit more $ to a 1 yr contract for Delgado, when that could wind up being wasted money? Instead let’s move in the direction of the long term fix. The likelihood is Davis will be ready sometime in 2010. Don’t clog the position with Delgado in front of him. Davis will bring power to the team. In the meantime, having DeRosa to participate in a platoon at 1B bring much versatility. It is a cheaper solution that leaves more $ to spend on LF and pitching. Gambling on Delgado is just too risky.
he would a be a decent solution, and i like that you are using OPS as measure of players. still though, “intensity in the clubhouse” is not a factor and is not relevant. neither is “playing the game the right way”. those are just vague ways to make players sound better than their numbers indicate. but they are exactly as good as their numbers.
although i guess i should not that derosa desperately needs a platoon partner, and that any manager that lets him bat against righties should be fired.
MARTIN, MURPH IS USELESS IN FIELD & HAS LITTLE POWER TO DEVELOP AS WELL AS A PLODDER ON BASPATHS. COMBINE HIM WITH DeROSA & WHAT, IF ANY OF THOSE NEGATIVES HAVE U IMPROVED. BTW, WHO’S BATTING CLEANUP INSTEAD OF DELGADO? BELTRAN? HE HATES IT, BARELY COMFORTABLE AS #3 WOULD PREFER #2. WRIGHT? MURPHY? FRANCHY? HOLLIDAY? BAY? DeROSA? NONE OF THE ABOVE ARE QUALIFIED CLEANUP TYPES. MURPHY WAS NEVER, EVEN A PROSPECT
(PROSPECTS DON’T COME AS THIRD ROUNDERS ONLY SUSPECTS), IF NOT FOR HIS INITIAL GOOD IMPRESSION, HE’D BE BENCH FODDER. HIS WEAKNESS TODAY IS WHAT IT’S ALWAYS BEEN: NO ADEQUATE/COMPETANT FIELDING POSITION.
DELGADO WAS CONSIDERED A ‘CORE’ PLAYER U DON’T REPLACE A ‘CORE’ PLAYER WITH A BARELY ADEQUATE GLUE/SUPPORT TYPE UNLESS U MANAGE THE PIRATES OR REDS.
IN CASE U HAVEN’T NOTICED THE BIGGEST FAILURE OF ’05 WAS OMAR’S CONFIDENCE IN SIGNING DELGADO SINCE HE BUILT THE LINEUP AROUND DELGADO AS #4, FISH GOT BIG DOG, WE WERE LEFT WITH HUGE HOLE IN CLEANUP SPOT. WITHOUT A BIG BOPPER THERE’S “NO FLOW” TO THE LINEUP!
regarding trading Murphy. What team would want Murphy? Murphy is part of a larger packaged trade not the main ingredient in any possible deal.
An American league team that need s a fill in 1st baseman and a can tolerate a below average power producing DH?
I just don’t see Murphy playing anywhere. If the Mets don’t resign Delgado I take it as a message that they are giving up on 2010 and focusing 2-3 down the road.
In 2-3 years…
Jose Reyes will be established and in his prime…
Beltran will be on the downside if still playing at all.
David Wright will be in his prime
Santana will be at the on the dowward side of his career
O. Perez will either be one of the best lefty’s in baseball or a total bust
Maine?
Pelfrey hopefully will be a consistent 15 game winner
Jeff Francouer will develop into a consistent 15-20 hr 85-100 horrible obs type player perfect for hitting #6
Fernando Martinez will either be starting in LF or a bust
Ike Davis will be playing 1st
center field?
catcher?
2nd base?
cleanup hitter?
number 2 hitter?
number 2 starter?
closer?
We need to resign delgado and take his 25-30 home runs 100 rbi’s for the next 2 years
A solid @2 starting pitcher
A left fielder. Although if we resign Delgado I can live with Nick Evans hitting #7. Evans will produce 12-20 home runs 60-90 rbis albeit with a horrible obs and lots and lots of strikeouts.
catching tandem of Thoele/Santos. A though Thoele really scares me defensively!
2010
Reyes ss
Castillo 2b
Wright 3b
delgado 1b
Beltran cf
Francouer rf
Evnas LF
Santos/Thole C
pitchers spot
Key bench
Pagen (will see lots of playing time for Beltran and Evans)
Cora
Murphy (shrugs… I have no idea what he can do except play 1st base)
If we sign a solid #2 starting pitcher I think as long as Wright, Reyes and Beltran have productive yers we can compete.
LIFER, U MAKE AN EXCELLENT POINT FOR THE WRONG REASON. IT’S NOT JUST POWER WE NEED; BUT WITHOUT DELGADO THE NYM ARE MISSING A CLEANUP HITTER. BELTRAN HAS ALWAYS LOOKED UNCOMFORETABLE THERE. MURPH IS BEST SUITED FOR BOTTOM OF ORDER 6 OR 7. WRIGHT DOESN’T HAVE THE FEAR FACTOR THAT AN ACTUAL CLEANUP HITTER SHOULD & EITHER DOES FRANCOUER. WITHOUT DELGADO OR SUITABLE HR REPLACEMENT THEY’VE REESTABLISHED THE PROBLEM THEY HAD BACK IN ’05.
THE SOLUTION IS EITHER RESIGN DELGADO OR EXPLORE ACQUIRING FIELDER SINCE NO MENTIONED LF OPTIONS ARE CLEANUP CANDIDATES.
ANOTHER FLAW IN YOUR APPROACH IS:
I NOTICED U DIDN’T INCLUDE A ROTATION PROJECTION; BUT FROM YOUR COMMENTARY I’M ASSUMING SANTANA,PEREZ,MAINE,PELFREY ARE MEMBERS. THIS LEADS TO ANOTHER FLAW EVEN IF DELGADO IS RESIGNED & HE CAN RESUME HIS POWER HITTING. WITH PEREZ,PELF & MAINE PITCHING REG TO NOVICE CATCHERS U’LL HAVE THE BLIND PITCHING TO THE BLIND. NIGHTLY. LoDUCA’S MOST USEFUL ASSET WAS HIS STUBBORNNESS & HEADSTRONG CATCHING STYLE. THEY’LL CERTAINLY NEED A ‘TAKE CHARGE’ BACKSTOP UNLESS THEY BRING SANDY OUT OF RETIREMENT, THEY WON’T HAVE IT. WITH PHL BEING THE OFFENSIVE CLASS OF THE DIV & ATLANTA RETURNING AS THE PITCHING CLASS; HALFWAY TINKERING MEASURES WON’T CUT IT. I BELIEVE THEY’LL NEED AT LEAST 50HR & A POTENTIAL 15G WINNER TO ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING BETTER THAN THIRD PLACE,EVEN IF TOTALLY HEALTHY.
Signing Delgado would be the biggest mistake possible. He covers no ground at all, has trouble with balls hit right at him, can’t hit the inside belt high strike anymore, will match wright and Francouer strike out for strike out, doesn’t run hustle or throw well and recovering from hip surgery at his age. Please! Delado paired on the right side w/Castillo’s loss of range which we’ll have to live with for at least one more year means RF will be fielding those ground balls. Besides more than offsetting whatever runs he produces the pitching staff will have to get 4 or 5 outs in some innings. That will mean the 10th 11th and 12th pitcher will be in the game way more often than they should. Daniel Murphy is already after half a season way better at first base. He covers ALOT of ground, fields the ball, has a good accurate arm and has a short swing that produces line drives from line to line. He’s younger, healthier, hungrier and more of a complete player than Carlos is right now. 38 doubles and 12 homeruns in a big park on a cool and rainy summer at age 24 while trying to learn not 1 but 2 new positions showed me mental toughness. If Derosa spells him and wright and the corner outfielders I’m all for it. But give this young guy a chance with a full line up and a year at first under his belt and he’ll give us .290 18 90 w/50 2B and alot less wear and tear on the pitchers.
My advocating to resign Delgado for 2 years is simply to get 25-30 home runs 100 rbi’s into the lineup. Can you name another 1st baseman we can sign this winter who gives us the same chance of getting 27 hr’s 100 rbi’s from 1st base?
Murphy will be a net positive over Delgado who if healthy will let in more runs with poor defense than the increase over Murphy’s numbers. The difference in salary would probably be 10 mil. Why would you want to spend that here? Get a starter.
AGEE, I’M REALLY NOT CERTAIN WHAT U R DRINKING/SMOKING/INJECTING; BUT IT SURE ISN’T GOOD FOR YOUR PERCEPTION. ANY CONCEPT THAT MURPHY IS ACTUALLY BETTER DEFENSIVLY THAN DELGADO IS A MIRAGE IF U LOOK AT THE NUMBERS OVER 3 FULL SEASONS 06-08 OF 141,138 & 154G RESPECTIVELY DELGADO WAS CHARGED WITH EXACTLY 8E IN EACH OF THOSE FULL SEASONS COMPARED TO ’09 WHEN IN ONLY 101G MURPHY WAS CHARGED WITH 10E @1B ALONE. I CERTAINLY DON’T BELIEVE WHATEVER U R INJESTING IS SO STRONG AS TO MAKE U THINK THERE IS ANY OFFENSIVE COMPARISON. I HATE TO BREAK IT TO YOU; BUT MURPHY IS A VERY LIMITED PLAYER WHO HAS LOOKED NICE FOR A SUSPECT aka A THIRD ROUND DRAFT PICK THAT MADE THE SHOW.
IN MY OPINION, ANY 2010 PROJECTED LINEUP WITH MURPHY AS A REGULAR IS DOOMED TO FAILURE & BTW WHO’S BATTING CLEANUP? 2 ME DELGADO, ONLY IF HE’S RETAINED HIS BATSPEED IS OPTION #2 FOR BETTERING THE METS IN ’10 @ 1B WITH OPTION ONE BEING PRINCE. DELGADO’S ALSO LIKELY TO BE NOWHERE NEAR YOUR PROJECTED/ASSUMED 10M SALARY MOST LIKELY GUARANTEED 5M OR LESS+INCENTIVES WEIGHED HEAVILY ON GAMES & ABs
LIFER, EVEN I THINK 2Y MAY BE TOO LONG. U WANT AN ANSWER RE. BETTER 1Y OPTION? FIELDER! CONTRACT @ 10.5M EXPIRES AFTER NEXT SEASON+ WE’D REAP THE COMPENSATION PICKS. LIKELY COST 2 SP, WITH PETERSON AS THEIR NEW PITCHING COACH, I’D ASSUME THEY’D WANT PELFREY & MAINE RICK’S 2 ZOMBIES.
I’D DO THAT INK LACKEY FOR #2 & MARQUIS TO REPLACE PELF @#3. WITH FIELDER’S 40HR+ POTENTIAL I CAN GO FOR LESS THAN HOLLIDAY IN LF SINCE BORAS IS TALIKING 20M TEX MONEY.
