In general a great posting...but there a few constants that people tend to forget. There was no intention to have Murphy be the first baseman this year. After Delgado's resurgence in 2008 who would have expected to lose him to injury for most of the season. Murphy has a fabulous work ethic but even that couldn't make him an outfielder and that explains all of Sheffield's playing time. While I would love to send Oliver Perez a visit from Jack Kevorkian, Omar had no choice last year but to resign him. Sometimes, sh*t happens! Add the loss of John Maine, Big Pelf's poor season and eventually Santana's injury and that gave us what will be the focus of Omar's search during this off season. K-Rod had far too many days off in the second half to be sharp and that explains his poor control. He will be fine next year but we need not expect to get 60 saves. Mets fans should be thrilled that Jeff Wilpon has told us that Omar will be able to spend what it takes to be a winner again, that serious changes need to be made in terms of medical decisions and he has agreed that Mets history at Citi Field will be addressed.
Living in Arizona for the past 3 years has limited me to following the Amazins on Satellite TV. I purchased a fanwalk brick when the were first offered but Citi Field will never be home for me until I see a some serious space in the park dedicated to honoring our past and the stars that we grew to love. I am thinking as mentioned that first a large statue be erected honoring Gil Hodges, and the same to honor our "Franchise". Tributes to Koos, the Mex, the Kid, Doc and Darryl should follow down the road. Might there even be a place for "Steady Eddie"? We, the fans were named and regarded as "the Faithful" and our voices have been heard....

Let's stick with the program just a bit longer and give management the chance to deliver what they promise!

Great article Joe. I haven't had the time to listen to Franesca's interview, but our article shows that there were many piercing questions and the Mes response was as we expected, that is generally deficient. Omar truly sounds clueless and it is very unfortunate that this "team" is being kept in place because in order to get better, we will have to get worse first.

I agree Murphy should be traded, he's too narrow a player in the field to be of value. If Omar is not on top of getting either Fielder or Adrian Gonzalez, needs to be (guess what?) - sacked! The power bat or bats is essential and they better do the shoping very carefully. The Citifield discussion was the most ridiculous of all - it is evident the strategy was botched and the Pitcher's Park was a fiasco as has been said so many times here. SP's - once again, the shopping better be with knowledge and care.

I can't help thinking that it is too much to achieve with this bunch in charge.

"The only problem I have is my concern that Omar is being given the keys to the kingdom again… I have no doubt that Omar Minaya can spend the Wilpon’s millions, but my big concern is whether Omar can spend those millions wisely. He has yet to prove that he is capable of doing that."
.........................................................................
Joe, this is my concern as well, as I have posted today. While alot of positive things were said yesterday such as spending money in the offseason, we are still stuck with Omar to manage that money and team decisions. I think their "act" yesterday made alot of people feel warm and fuzzy, and forget Omar. That being said, we are stuck with him, so hopefully he will have some help in the decision making. But his track record, with decisions like Ollie which as we both pointed out today he would do again, Omar has shown his Leadership skills. Standing alone, I do not feel like he can lead us to a pennant.

Great job Joe,

I'm glad you also realize that yes it was an excellent job by Francesa yesterday and a good day for Mets fans to get some finality on some things, whether you were happy with the decisions or not.

What I gathered from what I heard was that the mets still have not formulated a plan. Maybe they are bringing someone in on the sneak to do that?

Joe, Regarding the Mets museum and your remark about the statues, I am all for the Tom Seaver one, but I think Casey Stengel or William Shea should get one before Gil Hodges. Shea especially as he is most responsible for the formation of the Mets.

I was surprised yesterday that Francesa did not bring up Bobby V. Francesa has been known to ask the serious question like he did yesterday, but I was waiting for that question. Hopefully the front office is thinking about bringing Bobby back, because if the Marlins or another team gets him, Mets fans will not be happy at all.
