Mets Get Chris Carter To Complete Billy Wagner Trade
According to Bart Hubbuch of the NY Post, the Mets and Red Sox completed the Billy Wagner trade by acquiring AAA OF Chris Carter and Single-A 1B Eddie Lora. Carter was immediately added to the Mets’ 40-man roster, which brings the current number to 38.
Carter, 26, is a career minor leaguer who has consistently hit well over .300 at Class AAA. This season, he hit .294 with 16 homers for Pawtucket.
Originally a first baseman, the lefthanded power prospect has accumulated significant playing time in the outfield.
The Red Sox had to wait for the season to end before they could send Carter to the Mets because of a waiver claim made by the Yankees in August.

Finally. The Yanks are a bunch of fools for that move.
I had been following this for quite some time it’s good to see that the trade finally has closure.
Good, now he can be included with glamour boy Murphy, Castillio, and others to be named later in a trade for Prince Fielder.
Brewers need more than that to get Prince to Citi.
I said “others” didn’t I?
CAPSLOCK=DISABILITY ACCOMODATION
WITH LOOPER’S CONTRACT EXP & HIS 6M OPTION, BREWS WILL NEED SPing. I’D PROPOSE PELFREY/NIESE AS A NUCLEUS TO ANY OFFER FOR THE FRESH PRINCE FROM BEERTOWN FIELDER’S 10.5M IS ROUGHLY A QUARTER OF THEIR COMMITMENT FOR ’10 ADD IN LOOPER’S 6M & THEY’LL BE ABLE TO CUT PAYROLL SIGNIFICANTLY & COMMISEERATE WITH ATTENDANCE & STANDINGS AS WELL AS HAVING AN ALTERNATIVE FOR THEIR LONE MERCURIAL LH SP, PARRA(11-11 6.56)
PRINCE IS PURELY A 1Y SOLUTION SO NYM NEED TO KEEP MURPH & DAVIS IN WINGS. CONTRACT EXP IN 2010 WITH BORAS AS AGENT.
I don’t know what the big deal is about this guy. He’s been repeating AAA for like 3 years. Why would they give up anything of real value for a couple of months of Billy Wagner? Carter will just replace Wily Mo Pena at Buffalo and that’s about it. The other guy isn’t even worth discussing.
Instead of our draft picks we would have gotten at the end of the post season we get Chris Carter and some other guy, great job Omar, just great, at least 3 more years of Omar and idiot moves.
CAPSLOCK=DISABILITY ACCOMODATION
GREG, WHAT GOOD ARE DRAFT PICKS IF U CAN’T INK THEM? FRED DECREED THE NYM WILL STRICTLY COMPLY WITH COMMISSIONER’S PUBLISHED GUIDELINES RE. DRAFT SIGNING BONUSES. SAVING 3M+ & GETTING 2 SUSPECTS BETTER THAN NOTHING. EITHER UNDERSTAND THE PARAMETERS OR STAY CONFUSED. OWNER ALWAYS TRUMPS GM IN EVERY FRANCISE’S DECISIONS. IN MY BOOK, UNLESS TALKING CAPITAL CRIMES, FOLLOWING SUPERIOR’S ORDERS IS NOT A FLAW.
Ugh!
This is a newsworthy item?
yes because this guy is decent and a bit better than a replacement-level player. far better than francoeur.
Did you just say he’s “far better” than Francoeur?
Excuse me, but he’s never played in the Majors, so WTF are you talking about???!!!
Incidentally, we were told in the art. above that he consistently hits well above .300 at AAA-level, but that this year he hit .294 @ Pawtucket. Maybe I am just having a hard time w/ plain English, but that strikes me as a bona fide contradictory statement.
I dunno, is it just me, or does this 26-yr. old not have a lot of superstar upside?
Bring back Mike Vail!
RUSS, BRAVO!
THIS DEAL WAS MORE ABOUT NOT PAYING 3M+ TO A PLAYER WITHOUT A POSITION ON A TEAM WITHOUT ASPIRATIONS OR POSSIBILITIES. WHY KEEP WAGNER? IS THE QUESTION. COULD THEY HAVE GOTTEN MORE? CERTAINLY; BUT AT WHAT COST? EATING A CHUNK OF SALARY? EVEN WITH A TON OF CONDIMENTS THAT’S PRETTY UNPALATABLE THIS PAST SEASON. BOTH THESE GUYS SEEM MORE SUSPECT THAN PROSPECT. LOST DRAFT PICKS? PIG IN THE POKE IF U CAN SIGN THEM FOR SLOT MONEY.
IT IS WHAT IT IS & NOT WHAT U HOPE IT TO BE!
am i expected to argue with you when you cant get the simplest facts right? he has played in the majors, in 2008 and in 2009. please y to do a tiny amount of research.
you may not be aware of this. but minor league stats can be used to project major league stats. and carter is without question, undeniably, a far better player than francouer.
CAPSLOCK=DISABILITY ACCOMODATION
MARTIN, SORRY; BUT THERE IS ABSOLUTLY NO GUARANTEES MINOR LEAGUE HEROIC STATS TRASLATE VERBATIM INTO MAJOR LEAGUE CAREERS THUS THE TERMINOLOGY AS A “QUADRUPLE A” PLAYER WAS BORN. PERHAPS U MISSED ALL OF THE HIGHLY TOUTED AAA ROAD KILL BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD? THE DIFFERENCE IS THIS FRANCOEUR’S STATS ARE PROVEN MLB NUMBERS, CARTER’S AREN’T BOTH ATLANTA & BOSTON ARE FRANCHISES WITH STRONG CREDENTIALS IN PLAYER DEVEKLOPMENT. THE SIMPLE FACT THAT @ 25, FRENCHY ALREADY HAS 5 SEASONS OF PROVEN MLB STATS AT AGE 25 HE IS VETTED AND BECAUSE HE’S ONLY 25 HE CAN IMPROVE & IS UNLIKELY TO DETERIORATE. CARTER, ON THE OTHER HAND HIS 6 YRS OF PROBALL IN MINORS WERE IMPRESSIVE THOUGH I’VE YET TO SEE ANY DEFENSIVE STATS ON HIS ABILITIES IN 2009 MILB.COM SHOWS:
2009 Season
Team League AVG G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG OPS
PAW INT .294 116 428 50 126 25 0 16 61 199 42 63 0 0 .358 .465 .823
Minors .294 116 428 50 126 25 0 16 61 199 42 63 0 0 .358 .465 .823
MLB .000 4 5 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 4 0 0 .000 .000 .000
THAT’S DECENT; BUT HIS MLB CAMEO DOESN’T KNOCK MY SOCKS OFF. THAT’S 4 Ks IN 5 ABS OVER 4G.
(BTW NY IS HIS 4th ORG IN THOSE 6 YRS)(D’BACKS,NATS,BOSOX)
CARE TO RECONSIDER?
CAPSLOCK=DISABILITY ACCOMODATION
MARTIN, DID FRANCOUER STEAL YOUR WIFE OR GF? THAT’S THE ONLY PLAUSABLE EXPLAINATION FOR YOUR CONSIDERING CARTER(27 YRS OLD) BETTER THAN FRANCOEUR(25 YRS OLD)
DID U NOTICE CARTER’S ’09 CUP OF COFFEE WAS FOR 4G 5AB WITH 4Ks HE IS A HITTER & NOT A PITCHER ISN’T HE? SINCE ONLY PITCHERS SHOULD HAVE THAT LEVEL A MLB APPEARANCE LINE. WHATEVER U R SMOKING, IT CAN’T BE LEGAL!
IS YOUR REAL NAME MARTIN CARTER? IF SO I APOLOGIZE FOR DISSING YOUR SON.
look, if you refuse to accept the reality of frenchy’s career stats, that is your problem i guess. carter is clearly, unquestionably, a better player. this is not really something you can dispute.
this is not to say that carter is an all-star. but he is better than replacement level, and frenchy is worse. the team wins more games if carter plays over frenchy.
keep in mind i am making these points assuming that you have at least a child’s understanding of how baseball works, how runs are scored, and how outs affect an offense.
Somehow the trdade does not seem quite fair to the Mets. We give up an All-Star closer for a possiblity out of triple A?

MARY, WHO PROMISED U FAIR? THEY LIED!
