The Mets remained mum regarding their coaching staff for 2010 on Sunday, but several sources are reporting that the Mets have made some moves.
Joel Sherman is reporting that the Mets have fired bench coach Sandy Alomar Sr. and first base coach Luis Alicea.
Pitching coach Dan Warthen will be resigned for the 2010 season, and Howard Johnson will be back as well.
Razor Shines will be back, but not as the third base coach.
On Saturday, manager Jerry Manuel met with reporters and said there would likely be a big announcement on Monday.
On Sunday, Manuel did not speak to reporters before the game and didn’t post a lineup until close to noon because he was in an end-of-the-season meeting to discuss personnel and different things that went wrong. “I thought for the most part it was very productive”, Manuel said,
I thought Warthen and Johnson had a slim chance of coming back, so these moves or lack of them are somewhat surprising to me.
Obviously, this also signals that Jerry Manuel will be back in 2010.
To recap, the New York Mets announced that Bench Coach Sandy Alomar Sr. and First Base Coach Luis Alicea will not be returning for the 2010 season. Alomar Sr. will be offered another position within the organization.
Hitting Coach Howard Johnson, Pitching Coach Dan Warthen and Bullpen Coach Randy Niemann will return in their same positions next year. Third Base Coach Razor Shines and Catching Instructor Sandy Alomar Jr. will be part of the Major League staff in 2010 in yet to be determined roles.

Oh good, the gang is all here or will be next year. Now if Omar can figure out a way to get Heilman and Pedro back we can have a do over for 07-08!Why do I think they resign Delgado and Putz?
Just leave it to the Mets! Very interesting how Jerry is dropping the 2 best coaches on the staff and the retaining the worst ones!
Does this say Omar’s position is waning as the 2 coaches being let go are the Latino ones? Is Jerry’s stock up with the Mets and Omar’s stock down? Jerry may be going to slide through on the injuries excuse. Well, as long as Omar is gone, we will be making some progress.
The pitchers lead the majors in walks despite pitching in a huge ballpark, and Warthen gets to come back?
FOR THE RECORD: STARTING ROTATION AFTER ST WAS TO BE: SANTANA,PELFREY,PEREZ,MAINE,REDDING
LESS THAN 3/3rs OF GS WENT TO THOSE 5 MEANING OVER A THIRD OF GAMES STARTED BY PITCHERS DEEMED UNWORTHY OF A ROTATION SPOT IN APRIL.
YET, SOMEHOW ALL 3 CG WENT TO LIVAN,MISCH & FIGGY: ALL REPLACEMENTS. ANY TEAM USING 12 SP DURING THE SEASON HAS NO STABILITY TO JUDGE BY THE OTHER CLICHE OTHER THAN SPing WINS GAMES IS “STRONG UP THE MIDDLE” IS PARAMOUNT. 4 CATCHERS, 12 SP, 4 SS, 1 2B, 3 CF CERTAINLY DOESN’T VALIDATE ESTABLISHING STRENGTH.
CONSIDERING THE TOTAL LCK OF LINEUP STABILITY THIS TEAM STILL MANAGED TO SOMEHOW PRODUCE A LEAGUE LEADING .270 TEAM BA(TIED WITH LAD FOR #1) AS WELL AS ALONE IN #1 SPOT WITH A .276 BA W/RISP ALL WHILE THEIR HITTERS WERE THE TOUGHEST IN MLB TO STRIKEOUT (ONLY 928 TIMES)
NO, YOU WON’T READ THESE NUMBERS IN NY PRESS OR HEAR THEM ON BROASDCASTS FROM SNY OR ON ANYSNY PROGRAM. I’VE HEARD THEM REPEATEDLY FROM OUR OPPONENTS BRADCASTS AS I’M CONSIDERED PART OF HOME TERRITORY BY ATL,CIN,NATS IN NL.
IT’S CERTAINLY NOT AS DARK AS EVERYONE THINKS. FAR FROM ROSEY,FAR FROM DESPERATION.
CLARIFICATION: LINE WAS TO INDICATE LESS THAN 66% OF GS MADE BY ESTABLISHED ROTATION.
BTW, THE “SKY IS FALLING” TEAM COVERAGE IN NY PRESS IS SOURCE OF MUCH MOCKING DERISION BY COMPETITOR CREWS.
These moves ar proof positive that more heartbreak is on the way next season. Warthen couldnt have done a worse job if he tried. Every pitcher regressed and none of them stepped up. I love HoJo, but it was time for a change as for three seasons under his tutelage, the Mets are still one of the worst teams in the game when it comes to situational hitting.
Yes I am right again! Warthen is coming back.
I’m not a “I-told you-so” kind of guy but.. you all mocked me when I said he would come back.
Once again I am right you all are wrong!
I TOLD YOU SO!
Like our pitchers I too have regressed to 12 yr old frustrated Met fan taking what little pleasure I can out of this horrible no good very bad season!
Man, I thought this is clean house day but I was wrong. More worst next year than this year. Argggghhhhhh!!!!!!!

I NEED SOME HELP UNDERSTANDING SOMETHING & HOPE SOME OF U CAN ESPLAIN IT TO ME. IT’S REGARDING THAT MOST FRUSTRATING PHENOMENON WE ALL SAW TOO MUCH OF THIS YEAR IT’S BB ISSUED WITH BASES LOADED, WE WERE 29th IN MLB WITH 20. HORRIBLE & AS EXPECTED. NO? WHERE I NEED HELP IS IN ASCERTAINING THE IMPORTANCE OF THE NEGATIVE STAT WHEN I LOOK AT THE 5 WORST TEAMS IN THIS REGARD:
LAD: 17
DET: 19
NYY: 19
NYM: 20
MILW:23
WOULDN’T U SAY 3 OF THESE 5 HAD PRETTY DECENT SEASONS? AFTER GLANCING THROUGH A NUMBER OF SEASONAL TEAM STATS I KNOW WHY HOJO IS BACK
TEAM BA: .270, #1 IN NL. B/A W/RISP .276 #2 IN NL(ATL .278) THE TEAMS STRIKING OUT THE FEWEST(928 TIMES) IN MLB CEWRTAINLY HELPS. HOWEVER I CAN’T TOTALLY CORRELATE THAT TEAM BA W RISP WITH SUCH POOR RUN PRODUCTION 671 FOR 24th IN MLB & 12th IN NL. ANOTHER DIBILITATING STAT WAS IN SPITE OF A ROBUST .278 W/RISP IT PLUMETTED TO .220 W/2 OUTS OR BASES LOADED. OUR 4 GRAND SLAMS WERE ENOUGH TO BE TIED FOR 14th IN MLB DESPITE BEING 30th IN OVERALL HR. TIMELY THOUGH, I GUESS, SINCE THAT .220 BA W/ BASES JUICED WAS 29th BEST IN MLB SURPASSING ONLY KC’s .198 WITH THEIR 2 GS.
PERHAPS SANDY Sr IS TAKING THE FALL FOR THE MISERABLE .984 FIELDING %.
ON THE BRIGHT SIDE THE PREPONDERANCE OF THE PLAYERS ON THE FIELD OR ON THE MOUND MOST OF ‘09 WERE IDENTIFIED AS NOT WORTHY IN ST. D/L CHANGED THEIR DESIGNATION TO BEST AVAILABLE QUICKER THAN WE NEEDED.
Bringing Warthen back is stunning. I’m not sure what games Manuel was watching, but the ones I saw only Johan was the only starter worth much. I simply can’t believe it, we sucked on the hill this year. I am not feeling like they are going to make significant coaching/management changes this off season…
I am just frustrated that Jeff Wilpon has retained these clowns for next year. But Jeff Wilpon acknowledged the screw ups of the injury reports that the Mets players incurred is unacceptable and will do a better job. Really Jeff? Why didn’t you come out and say it during the season instead of sitting on your butt and let this season go in the toilet.
Manuel is a snake. Omar is a doofus for letting Bernazard and Pena shit all over everybody, and for the “lobby” accusation, and for the Okkie and Castillo contracts, and for the…oh well, you get it. But Manuel is a snake. He isn’t even a smart snake. But then, how smart do you have to be to fool a Won’tpon? Just ask Art Howe (did I ever get this job? Didn’t Fred and Jeffie read “Moneyball”?) or Steve Phillips ESPN’s pet general manager). Point is, now when these guys who are on a short leash fail, the mets will be sniffing around in the mid-season talent pool for their replacements, instead of recruiting now, when there are people out there that other teams actually want.
Jeffie thinks that Snake and Doofus have the “experise” to lead the mets bacl to the top oof their division–he actually said this without guffawing. Only one thing to do and if met fans do not do it, they deserve everything that happens to them. Boycott this piece of garbage organization.
I’m a life long Mets fan. I’ll always be a Mets fan. That waht makes being a fan special. You have a favorite team, you follow the team, you root for the team in good times and bad.
I’m a Mets fan. I’lll always be a Mets fan no matter how many games they win. Even if the Mets fail to resign Delgado and play Daniel Murphy at 1st next year I will still be a Met fan! Eve if Jose Reyes is forced to retire and Joey Cora becomes the everyday shortstop I will still be a Mets fan!
I think people need to get a grip and realize its been a horrible year. Thank God its over and its time to move on!
I am excited about several things next year.
1. Fernando Martinez playing left field every day. I predict Martinez will hit number #7 then move up in #2 later in the year.
2. Reyes coming back!
3. Carlos Delgado hitting 30 home runs
4. We now have an established very capable 4th outfielder in A. Pagen
5. The Mets obtaining a solid #2 starter
6. Santana throwing pain free, Maine’s shoulder feeling ok. Pelfrey maturing little by little and Ollie Perez w/ a healthy knee
(I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt)
7. A full season of Jose Reyes and Luis Castillo hitting #1 and #2
than means its 1st and 2nd w/ nobody out in the first inning at least 35% of the time sports fans!
8. Seeing if Jeff Francouer can continue his upswing into next year hitting #6 behind Beltran
9. An outfield of Martinez, Beltran and Francouer
10. Ike Davis joining the team in August to give Delgado days off, fill in corner outfield as needed and provide power lefty off the bench before taking over for Delgaado in 2011
Reyes
Castillo
Wright
Delgado
Beltran
Francouer
Martinez
Santos/Thoele (sp)

BE OPTIMISITC!
I agree with everything you said except for Delgado, and F-Mart. I really think Delgado is done with the Mets. We need a healthy first baseman in their early thirties, not their late thirties. And with F-Mart, they should put him in AAA Buffalo, and let him work their for a while, and leave Pagan in left for now since he has shown that he can play there. But we should try and get another outfielder and have Pagan as a backup to give guys days off.
1.Reyes
2.Castillo
3.Beltran
4. Hopefully Adrian Gonzalez
5. Wright
6.Francouer
7. Pagan? Thole/Santos?
8.Thole/Santos?
Let’s go Mets!

NICK, MOST “PAID EXPERTS” DO NOT BELIEVE PADRES WILL MOVE GONZALES IF DELGADO’S BETSPEED IS RETAINED, HE’D ID BEST OPTION FOR ONLY 1Y WITH LOW GUARANTEE $ UNTIL IKE DAVIS IS READY IN ‘11. I DON’T BELIEVE A SANTOS/THOLE BACKSTOP TANDEM IS STRONG ENOUGH TO SHEPARD OUR INEXPERIENCED, YET TALENTED ROTATION MEMBERS THROUGH A SUCCESSFUL SEASON AND MOST LIKELY A 2Y/12M OFFER WILL BE EXTENDED TO BENGIE MOLINA.
BEST ANNOUNCMENT FROM OCT. 5 WAS “NO DRACONIAN PAYROLL CUTS – PAYROLL LIKELY AROUND THE SAME”…JEFF WILPON.
RAYS PRESENTLY HOLD A $10M OPTION ON CARL CRAWFORD FOR ‘10 & LIKELY LOOKING TO AN ACTIVATE/TRADE DEAL. IN MY OPINION CRAWFORD WOULD BE THE BEST AVAILABLE LF SOLUTION. BAY WILL REMAIN WITH BOSOX AS THEY WON’T BE OUTBID FOR HIM. HALLADAY STILL UNDER JAYS CONTROL FOR ‘10 @ 15.75M
