Koosman suffered one last injustice for toiling in Tom Seaver’s shadow – would the ebullient, media-savvy Tom go to jail, rather than pay a stiff fine (which undeniably is an appropriate punishment) if he had been caught evading taxes?

Thank you for such a thoughtful look at one of my all time favorite Mets. I still have the 1977 Mets yearbook when Koosman graced the cover after his 21 win season in 76. He was such a class act, and I feel so bad about what happened to him regarding his tax problem.

I LOVE KOOZ!!!! You are correct, he was a GREAT big game pitcher.

Thanks for posting this. Koosman was truly an unsung hero of the Mets and their fans, this one included. How lucky I was to see him pitch in person for the Mets back in the 70′s.
