C'mon son! I don't think that being a Met fan defines who I hate or don't hate. In fact I think being a fan is all about the love. My love for Mets is a peaceful non hating one being a New Yorker and related to NY Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers fans back in the day. However, being a Met Fan here in Philly Land ( i currently reside in Old City in KillaDelphia) I can never forgive natives here for the classless and merciless harassment I have received for simply liking my team. As a Mets fan I remember that we were founded and immediately terrible. In 1962 the Mets had the worst season in the MLB. Yet, people were still fans. Gil's Mets made being at the park fun. Some who are old enough to remember remain fans. I will never be a Yankee fan. That is my blood will never run will pin stripes and blue. I don't get choked up over going to the Bronx. I bleed Orange and Blue. I get chills when I see the Worlds Fair grounds and I have people in Queens. Yet as much as the ever so arrogant Yankee fans can be, I will never root for a team whose fans think that baseball is bloodsport. Where anyone not born in the town is an 'outsider.' Where the legacy for baseball is racism and some argue the source of 'the worst treatment of Jackie Robinson in the MLB."Dick Allen, the Phillies, and Racism" by William C. Kashatus
Baseball should be a family game. Remember as well, the Yankess above it all are a NY Team. As a New Yorker there are no real out of town rivalries. There is no greater city in America. If one NY team can't beat em,' let's hope the other one can. Don't hate the Yankees. Be a Mets fan. Root for the team who can beat the Frillies. Root, root, root for your home team. If they don't win it's a shame. C'mon Yankees, kill 'em.

Let's all just root for a double forfeit where they both lose or a rain out until February that cancels the World Series.

No, I wasn't around then... but my "hatred" for the Yanks was only really born in 1998 I'd say. I mean growing up a Mets fan in the 80's I barely knew the Yankees existed to be honest. I don't see how any real baseball fan could have hated the 96 Yankees. Sure, after they won and the bandwagon began to roll away is when the re-birth of hatred occured, but that was a team that if you're being honest, there was no reason to "hate."

I've disliked Philly sports teams for as long as I can remember. So it doesn't really matter to me if it's the Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, Temple University, or even the Sixers. Heck, I don't even follow the NBA but I don't like the Sixers. :)

I dont think Met fans as a whole can all root for one team or the other, we all have our own personal reasons for rooting for either the yanks or phils....I live in north jersey and am surrounded by yankee fans and my grandfather lived in south jersey and was a huge phillies fan......so i hope the yanks get embarrassed

OMFG!

People, stop wasting time on this (And, um, yeah, I do get the irony of commenting!).

There is no better or worse argument about whom to root for in any remotely objective sense, so let's just give this silliness a rest.

That said, Sweep 'Em Phils!

I'm going with the lesser of two evils, which is why I'd rather have the Yankees sweep.

I have to be around lots of South Jersey Phillie fans each day, and i can't take them. If I were around Yankee fans every day, I'd pick the Phillies, but I'm not.

They're both going to give us grief all winter, but I'll take a 27th Yankee title, before I ever root for the Phillies.

I'm a die-hard Mets fan and I will Never, EVER, under any circumstances, root for the Yankees.

I going with the lesser of the two evils which are the Phillies.

This is not about New York City in my book, I just "hate" the Yankees. I root for them to lose almost as I root for the Mets to win....and for me, personally, I'm not changing.

The Mets let me down, the Twins let me down, the Angeles let me down, and the Dodgers let me down. Only the Phillies are standing.

Let's go Phillies....and I'm hoping one of the Phillies pitchers (Pedro?) has the balls to continually go high and tight on Gay-Rod because he is too dam comfortable at the plate right now.

Kind of ironic there was a Phillies gear google ad below this piece, lol.

Just a question: I wonder whether this blogger was around in 1976 through 1978, because a Yankee-Phillie World Series came close to happening in all three years. Would you have taken this position then? Would you really have preferred the Bronx Zoo to the likes of Mike Schmidt, Greg Luzinski, and one Frank Edwin McGraw? Would you not have enjoyed George in his prime going berserk if Steve Carlton tossed a two-hitter in the Bronx? Or Larry Christenson belting home runs into the short YS porches (FEH, DH!)? And if you think smug Crankee fans strut their stuff about "owning" New York now, care to remember the days of M. Donald Grant and 700,000 attendance in a rotting Shea? Today the Mets are "second fiddle", but if we're worried about our relevance, they are today "second fiddle" having drawn 3 million and lots of press for being underachievers. In the '70's, New York was closer to a one-team town than at any time since 1958-61.

I agree that I can't root for the Phillies. But it's just THESE Phillies I can't root for. If there's a Yankee team I could root for, I haven't seen one.
