Carlos Delgado Likely Done For The Season

After suffering yet another setback with his hip injury, Carlos Delgado will most likely miss the remainder of the season. Delgado told reporters that there is inflammation in his hip following some running last Saturday. The Mets first baseman had right hip surgery on May 19 and was originally expected to return in early August, but suffered a string of one setback after another. “I’m a player. I like to play,” Delgado said. “You want to see your hard [...]

In a Way, Jeff Passan was Prophetic…

I just looked through some notes of mine from the start of the season, and found this article previewing the NL East by Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.  Here is an excerpt of how he felt about the Mets heading into 2009: Two years, two chokes. The Mets have gotten good at this. And, sure, the bullpen was a big issue, so seeing J.J. Putz and Francisco Rodriguez in the eighth and ninth innings will [...]

Suckdom, Thy Name Is Mets!

I know, it’s been a while. I spent the month of August in Uzbekistan, decidedly a country where precious few people care much for the fate of our beloved Mets. Aside from trying to explain the delicious nuances of baseball in halting Uzbek to a couple of KGB inquisitors who were watching a Russian-dubbed version of a Yankees-Red Sox game, my only other exposure to baseball was a once-every-ten-day check of the internet where I [...]

Mets Reach New Low As Figgy Falters In 7-3 Loss

Last night, as the Mets fell to the Braves 7-3 it was more than just your typical loss. For the Mets it was their ninth loss in their last ten games, a feat they have managed to avoid all season long until last night. It was also their fifth straight loss, just one away from a season high. If you were hoping , as I was, that the Mets would at least end the season on [...]

Murphy Error Costly As Mets Fall To Braves 6-5

The Braves beat the Mets 6-5 on Wednesday night on an error by first basemen Daniel Murphy. Bobby Parnell started the game for the Mets and once again was inconsistent. Parnell went 3.1 and gave up 3 earned runs on seven hits. Derek Lowe got the start for the Braves and went 2 innings giving up 2 earned runs on 5 hits, but had to leave the game after the second with a blister on his [...]

Feliciano Looking For Multi-Year Deal

According to a report by Adam Rubin in the Daily News, Mets lefty reliever Pedro Feliciano is looking for a multi-year deal this off season as he enters his final season with the Mets. Rubin writes, Feliciano, 33, is arbitration-eligible and under the Mets’ control for the 2010 season. After that, he will be eligible for free agency. But both Mets officials and Feliciano expect to speak about a multi-year deal this winter. Either way, [...]
