Again,
I know I sound like a broken record when it comes to this absolutely ridiculous pitch count nonsense but the following statement in the above blog makes absolutely NO SENSE at all:

“Since he kept his pitch count low (70 pitches in five innings), he was able to stick around long enough to qualify for the victory”

Think about how ridiculous that statement is!

You cannot intentionally keep your pitch count low just as much as you don’t intentionally try to throw 100 pitches in 4 innings! It’s neither one. His pitch count was low because he was pitching good. His low pitch count was the result, the by-product. His pitch count was low because he had control, he hit his spots, and maybe had some luck too. Maybe some guys just happened to make outs by hitting low ball/strike counts.

You DO NOT intentionally keep your pitch count down. It can’t happen.
And I don’t completely blame the writer but i do blame people who have been around long enough to know better. This crap has created a climate around baseball of not being able to think for yourself in fans and coaches alike. Thank God baseball veterans speak out against this stupidity. And the fans are just not listening.
Joba Chamberlain may wind up being the poster boy of pitch counts ruining a promising baseball career.

See the Giants go out and show exactly what the Mets are not. The D sucks most of the game and our Offense comes right back. How many times in 2008 did our offense come back when the bullpen blew the lead?

Minaya and others can blame this season on injuries but I think we all know this team even when healthy is lacking. But hey its football season. Giants 2-0!

Sorry that I didn’t notice his velocity from my seat. I was too busy sampling the garlic fries and cannolis with blue and orange sprinkles.

However, according to mlb.com, he hit 92 MPH on the gun (and I quote):

“Maine seemingly has shed his burden, that of concern for his shoulder. He spent 75 pitches holding down an opponent rather than trying to come through a start unscathed. He threw fastballs with greater velocity — 92 mph — and movement than those he threw against the Phillies seven days earlier in his first appearance since his extended assignment to the disabled list.”
