Tommy2cats - I totally agree with you. For the first time in I don't know how long, I don't even check how the Mets are doing during a game. I go to the sports section and read what happened. My lack of caring is simple - the Mets are such a shell of a team right now. I remember last week when I did happen to check in on a score and saw that the Mets were leading - the next time I checked - after the game was over - I saw that K-Rod gave up a grand salami. I only laughed. I saw we should dump the "Los Mets" experiment of the last few years and bring back "The Mets". We have too many so-called talented players who have a pain threshold of a two year old and who tank come September.
Davey Johnson and GM, Bobby Valentine as manager and Jerry Manuel can manage Buffalo to get our minor league players ready for the bigs.

They're beginning to give up on it. The beards have started coming off and that says the players know this is not going away for quite a while.

What this site really needs to add right now is a beard tracker. I'm pretty sure that by the time the Mets get to 500 there's gonna be a lot of ZZ Top impersonators in Queens.

I agreee that the Parnell start was very revealing. He was totally unprepared to start and it is sad his mgmt put him out there in that way. This just shows that the Mets are dismal at player development. They take a player with potential and do not build it with meaningful training, but simply throw them into situations to break their confidence. It's not just Parnell, you can make the same case for Perez and Pelfrey. What are they doing to build the capabilities of the players?

The problem with draft picks is that there is no track record with Omar of using them effectively. we can get a top pick and use it one some player with no potential.

I was talking about this with my dad earlier and I came to the decision that maybe this is what -needs- to happen for the Mets to start playing like they actually care again. If it was just this season then it might be a different story but the Mets have had all the same problems, and then some, for a while now. To me some of the most exciting baseball is played when the worst teams surprise everyone by climbing out of the trenches to win it all. I love the underdog and it's the Mets that instilled that love in me! I mean, isn't that what made the 1969 Mets so miraculous? I'd much rather cheer for a lovable loser than a miserable one and if this is what needs to happen in order for the Mets to eventually make it to the World Series and win, I say bring it on. I love these boys come hell or high water but they've somehow lost that something special and they desperately need to find it again by any means necessary.

I just do not get why some fans are still getting all bent out of shape over the 2009 season. Does it really matter if the Mets win 65, 70, or 75 games. While I do not sit around hoping they continue to lose ballgames, there is a positive that comes from falling in the standings. If they could fall so low as to get a top 3 pick in the 2010 draft then so be it because the last time I checked you get nothing for finishing in 3rd-last place in the division so really is it worth getting so upset on a daily basis because of this ragtag of a roster. Why anyone expects the Mets to win more than 1 game in any particular series the rest of the season is beyond me. The Mets are what they are yet I keep reading these same things acting like the Mets still have a chance or like they should not miss a beat no matter what the circumstances.

Judging Bobby Parnell on 1 career start is not a wise decision especially considering he was on a pitch count of no more than 70 pitches.

Although, I will agree on the lack of secondary pitches but it is not just Parnell. Have you seen Mike Pelfrey pitch? How about the miserable John Maine? Most young pitchers today fail to have anything but 1 pitch, a 2-seamer or a 4-seamer and nothing more. There are only so many Clayton Kershaws and Tommy Hansons.

"EMBARRASSING" is the operative phrase to describe the New York Mets over the past 3 seasons.

Omar Minaya is the person accountable for mismanaging a $145m dollar roster and should be reassigned for the duration of his contract. Perhaps he can scrape up some rare talent from the Galapagos Islands.

Meanwhile, I trust Davey Johnson's judgement of baseball talent and Bobby Valentine's skill in managing a baseball club, particularly his in-game decisions.

I honestly feel sorry for Jerry Manuel. Sorry, Jerry, but this is no laughing matter...Bobby Ojeda is looking more and more like a mortician and Chris Carlin more like Uncle Fester in their post-game analyses.

Indeed, these are very sad days.
