The big problem is what happens with the future makeup of this team. Mgmt continues to play wait and see hoping that the injured players return in top form, even if that is not until next year. Delgado is a non-factor for next year. Therefore, the Murphy experiment continues at 1B with no real backup. Of the other 3 injured core players, the only one we can count on for next year is David. It's a crap shot whether Reyes and Beltran return in top form. Schneider will be gone from behind the plate. Will Santos be the lead catcher backed up by some second tier pickup? Castillo will be back at 2B and a yr older. Francoeur is a certaintly in RF. LF is a crap shoot and mgmt seems to be pointing to Pagan who is actually a #4. The rotation of with Pelfrey and Perez is anemic. Maine is another total uncertainty. Nieve and Nise are tossups for #5. It settles out that we are playing a waiting game regarding injuries and there is no real strategy to move this team forward. The real disappointment is how bleak the future looks.

It is so funny that both of the guys fighting for the 5th spot in the rotation at the beginning of the year are both terrible now. What would've happen had Niese been in the rotation from the beginning instead of one of these guys he probably wouldn't have gotten hurt either.

They can always gamble on Figgy. His second outing looked stellar and he still has two strikes to go.

One thing I hope we can all be sure of and that is the next year we will have a few more dollars dropping Livan and Tim. We will also have another duel for the 5th spot between Niese and Nieve with the rest of the rotation looking like this

1. Santana
2. Pelfrey
3. Perez
4. Maine
5. Niese or Nieve

I think Livan should have been put out of the rotation, if nothing less than to serve as an example. He has been terrible for at least 3 outtings in a row. I don't know if he is only able to pitch well the first half or what. He went from unstoppable to the worst in our lineup. I know that there are not many other options, but I would be willing to give Redding another chance. He has pitched very well in the bullpen. Of course our bats did not help matters much.

What can I say. This sums up for this season of bad baseball for the Mets.

Livan has one more shot before he loses his spot in the rotation. Likely to Redding

What choice does Jerry have at this point? I realize he backed down from his words, but wasn't that before a few potential pitchers went down?

I was at the game last night, I actually at in a luxury box for a work event, which that was incredible but........Livan was playing batting practice with an offensively challenged team.

We have NOT ONE core player left, our pitching sucks, and yet every day people seem surprised that the team lost.

I watched, but it was difficult to avoid falling asleep. I did find myself waking up at some point late in the game when Redding was on the mound and have no idea how long I was sleeping. The only disappointment was I missed the answer to the Alfac trivia question. But wow, Redding has developed quite a beard, whereas just about all the other players seem to have given up on the beard thing. If Redding intends to get back to .500, he better start pitching better, or else he will start to trip on his beard before long.

This was about as low as it gets. I only caught the end of the game and only because the movie I chose to watch instead of the game finished first. Is anybody still watching at this point? I think I'll make better use of my time and catch up on the games reading recaps and boxscores.

Livan has now had his strike 3 with 3 bad outings in a row. Jerry has backed off on his statement that 3 bad starts takes a pitcher out of the rotation. We can say the situation is different now as the season is officially in the toilet and there aren't many options. That's correct, but why stay with Livan? We can't possibly expect much else from him. I say take him out of the rotation and put someone else in there. Unfortunately, Tim Redding did not step up last night. It looks like Elmer Dessens may be the best of a bad bunch. I say give him a shot. After all, what do we have to lose?

Last night's GOAT was obviously Livan.

GOATS for the 2nd half: Parnell, Pelfrey, Cora, Perez, Pelfrey, Santana, Niese, Green, Pelfrey, Pagan, KRod, LHernandez, KRod, Parnell, Pagan, LHernandez, KRod, LHernandez

3 time GOATS: Pelfrey, KRod, LHernandez
2 time GOATS: Parnell, Pagan

6 of the last 8 GOATS have been either KRod or Livan.

Pitchers are picking up the bulk of the GOAT awards. The teams offense has been anemic, yet the gamme situations seem to be the pitching and at times defensive breakdowns that consistently provide the L's.
