When something goes a little off and you are not in a playoff race, you err on the side of caution. What was the worst that could happen from immediately pulling him out(other than slipping down the dugout stairs)?

Need to rename "Citi Field" "Bush Field."

The mets season is lost. In fact they should just lose more games so we get a better draft pick. Who cares whos on the mound? These games are meaningless...If someone gets injured, even if they say "I feel fine"...havent you learned from history? You take him out, period, prevent any further damage.

I would put some responsibility on the players too. I read reports of the mets playing cards in the clubhouse pregame and watching TV...STRETCH, STRETCH, STRETCH...especially if you an injury prone veteran...Drink lots of water...Just basic things.

Everyone is so quick to blame Jerry or the Mets medical staff but what if Niese said he wanted to continue? What if he was the one that did not want to walk off the field? Everyone throws warm up pitches when something goes a little off. It is up to the player to tell the medical staff how serious.

I know many will say the coaches and medical staff know better but they have had so many injuries losing more people becomes a bigger burden and so if I was in their shoes I would take Niese's word for it. And if he said he could continue then that falls on him just as much as the coaches and medical staff.

Absolutely correct. The Mets are a totally bush organization. We're doing our best to prove that the Phils are a top notch class outfit and we're clowns by comparison. Happ just pitched a great game, Cliff Lee is close to pitching no hitters and Pedro just struck out 10 in rehab. When Pedro returns next week, they have more pitchers than they can use. We're scratching to get someone on the mound. Good move Omar tossing $36 Mil at Ollie to set him up for life.

So let me get this straight...You're 5 games under 500, nowhere near the division lead, 7 teams in front of you for the wild-card and your rookie, top prospect, LHP goes down with something tweaked in his leg so you trot him over to the mound to take a warm-up pitch to see if he's able to continue in a meaningless game? BRAVO, Jerry. Is it any wonder this team has 9 guys on the DL?

Time to clean house. Fire everyone.

Gary Sheffield was smart to take himself out of the game when he felt pain. Had he stayed in, you can imagine what would have happened.

why did they let him throw the warmup pitch? Because they are the mets. If someone is in pain, take him out and look at it. If someone has had a concussion, keep him off a plane. You know how it goes.

What's the prognosis on Reyes? Have they decided surgery is required? He was diagnosed with a partially torn hamstring tendon. Niese has a completely torn one. Do tendons repair themselves with rest? I think the answer is NO! When will Jose' be declared as needing surgery?

I think it's likely he injured the hamstring at first, but totally blew it out with the warm-up. The question is why did they let him throw the pitch at all?

It won't end until October 4...

It's odd that Niese was able to walk under his own power from first base to the mound after his awkward stretch. I think it was the warmup pitch that did him in, not the stretch at first. Wouldn't that be something if the discomfort he was feeling after attempting to make the play at first had nothing to do with the injury he suffered on the warmup pitch?
