Please Give Me 10 Minutes in the Dugout!
JMAN’s post-game last night–not so good. Very Randolph-esque now. Lots of mumblin’, lots of hoping, lots of “it’s not so good; we have to try to turn it around” crap! Fans, I’m thinkin’ it’s high time for a little fire and brimstone. Whadda ya say? No one would seriously argue that a bit of the rant and rave would make matters worse, right? Here’s an appeal to the Wilpons or Minaya: Fly me to Queens [...]

Mets Trade Church For Jeff Francoeur
Moments ago in a press conference, Mets general manager Omar Minaya announced that they have traded rightfielder Ryan Church to the Atlanta Braves for rightfielder Jeff Francoeur. It was no secret that Church was on the outs as I have frequently pointed out this season, so this shouldn’t come as a big surprise to readers of this blog. It’s interesting to note that Francoeur was in the same kind of situation in Atlanta, and was [...]

Mets Move Church, But Is This What Fans Were Praying For?
Quick and to the point: I don’t understand the trade. We didn’t gain anything better than what we gave away. The Braves may have needed a center fielder, which Church can be, but the Mets certainly didn’t need a right fielder, which Church was. As Gary Cohen put it, “A one-on-one deal, an outfielder for an outfielder, in the same division …” If you ask me, both organizations got rid of guys their managers didn’t like. This [...]

Ibañez was voted in by the fans as a starter while Victorino made the team this week as the winner of the Sprint Final Vote. Werth enters tonight’s action with a .268 batting [...]

Pagan Activated, Evans Demoted, Maine Pitching Again
Outfielder Angel Pagan has been activated from the disabled list. To make room for him, Nick Evans was sent down to Triple-A. Evans was batting .256 with one homer and six RBIs in 43 at-bats. Pagan will start tonight in center field and bat leadoff against the Reds. John Maine, who has been out with a pinched nerve in his shoulder, threw off a mound today and reported no problems. Jerry Manuel said he was pain [...]

NL East Report
Atlanta Braves: (6-4; -5) The Atlanta Braves took two of three from the Chicago Cubs before losing the opener in Colorado. They will finish their series with three more in Colorado before the All-Star Break. Pitcher Javier Vasquez will miss his next scheduled start because of a strained lower abdominal muscle. The Braves had two prospects in the Baseball America’s Top 25, including the number 1 overall, Jason Heyward. Florida Marlins: (7-3; -2) The Marlins [...]

Throw In The Towel For 2009?
The most frightening part about it though, is that there is no help coming anytime soon. If Oliver Perez is the best reinforcement this team is going to gain in the next month, then I’d be hard pressed not to throw in the towel on this appalling 2009 campaign. Certainly you can point fingers, throw the blame around to the front office and the coaching staff and to the injuries suffered on the field, but [...]

MMO Flashback: The All-Star Game… What Exactly Is The Point?
In this edition of MMO Flashback, Rob Silverman takes us back to 2009 when the All Star Game was held at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Hometown player Albert Pujols was the leading vote-getter that year followed by the Yankees’ Derek Jeter. David Wright and Carlos Beltran were both voted into the starting lineup, President Barack Obama threw out the first pitch, Sheryl Crow sang the National Anthem, and the American League won the game 4-3. Time flies. Enjoy [...]
