Nick Johnson to Marlins
According to foxsports.com, the Florida Marlins have acquired 1B Nick Johnson from the Washington Nationals in exchange for AA prospect Aaron Thompson.
Johnson is hitting .295 with 6HR and 44RBI for the Nationals.
Johnson turns 31 this September, and will become a Free Agent after this season. The Nationals reportedly will pay $1.8 million remaining on Johnson’s contract.
I’m a big Murphy fan, but you have to wonder if Johnson could have been a good fit for the Mets this year.

I work for a non-profit organization, working closely with all of our fundraisers in hope of one day finding a cure. My time with MMO began in July of 2009 when I wrote a Fan Post defending Omar Minaya (before it was cool to do that.) I grew up a Mets fan with the mid 1980's teams. My favorite Met of all-time is (and was) Wally Backman. When it comes to sabermetrics versus old school thinking, I like to think I meet in the middle. I believe thinking of new ways to get answers is helpful, especially when the same way has not produced results. However, I think over-thinking certain situations can get you into trouble. I'm excited for the new regime, because I believe they have pieces in place to focus on several aspects of the Mets organization. I've waited this long for a World Series, waiting a few more years for another chance isn't going to kill me.

This is the reason why the Mets will continue to be “bottom-feeders” among wannabe contenders. The Red Sox, Reds, Marlins, Tigers,Royals, Mariners, Rockies, White Sox, Padres, Yankees, Braves, Phillies, Pirates, Twins, Dodgers, Cubs and Giants (22 teams) have all made player movements. The Mets:
And you can tell me all you want about the waiver wire but I will say this: Who are the Mets going to get that they will be willing to pay for and is going to help them win? And please don’t tell me that they are waiting for the walking wounded to return.
THE FREAKIN’ PADRES JUST GOT TRADED TO THE WHITE SOX!!!!!!
THE RED SOX GAVE UP NO ONE TO GET VICTOR MARTINEZ!!!!
Good job, Fred and Jeff. I’m not even going to blame Omar for this. Ownership, this lies AT YOUR FEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really like this move for the Marlins, as Johnson may not be a huge bat, he will provide Hanley Ramirez with some added protection in the lineup. It’s ashame that the Mets didn’t make a move
But in reality with Jose Reyes suffering a setback today and Carlos Beltran not expected to be at 100 percent this season maybe it was a wise move on Minaya to pass on acquiring the veteran injury prone first baseman.
