I think the Luis Castillo event said it all. No matter what the Mets do, everything turns out wrong. They lost the series to the Nats. We are officially a worse team than the last place team in the leauge. So sad.

Obviously too hot to handle. Very controversial and easy to get in the doghouse. They have to be aware of who pays their paychecks and the possibility of becoming a asacrificial lamb. They are generally pretty free with their opinions and criticism, but this topic is a little too sensitive for them to tread without caution. I can't blame them for that at all.

I thought it was interesting that they brought Oliver Perez up too. And of course their crticism of Oliie was completely justified.

I was surprised that they only spent a half inning discussing the Tony B story though. And even then, they simply glossed over it andd simply said it needed to be taken care of ASAP. I wanted to hear them have a solid discussion on it considering it has now been the biggest story of the last 48 hours.

There is another comment that I have, which relates to Oliver Perez. During the game last night, Keith took exception to a remark of Ollie's in which he stated "Walks are a part of baseball." Yes, walks ARE a part of baseball, but good pitchers minimize them and make sure they bear them and don't allow walked batsmen to score. Ollie walked 2 and hit a batsman in 6 innings. Two of those scored. Yes, they are a part of baseball. Bad pitchers make them and lose games because of it. Not pitchers who earn $36Mil over 3 years.

Another fine job by Omar (Jerry and Warthen too) for paying elite pitcher salary levels to a guy who doesn't understand the importance of not handing out free passes to base.

I'm glad Keith called him out on this. I guess the legacy of '69 and all that Tom Terrific brought to this organization is dead. Very sad indeed. "You start with STRIKE ONE and go from there."

Another lackluster game by the Mets. I have been picking Goats since the ASG break. This is a tough one. There are 2 candidates: Pelfrey for giving up the 3 runs especially the Willingham HR, or Francoeur for the loss in the light ball. I pick Pelf because the Francouer gaff was not really a difference maker.

GOAT: Pelfrey

For the 2nd Half, the GOATS are: Parnell, Pelfrey, Cora, Perez, and Pelfrey again.

"3 and yer out" Jeopardy Sweepstakes: Pelfrey takes the loss, but his outing was technically not BAD. So I guess this breaks his streak at just one strike in the books. He is off the hook beause mediocrity does not counts as BAD on this team. That leaves Perez as the only starter on the hook. Or does it, since Warthen said his last start was "encouraging"? Probably they are all off the hook. since with this team BAD must be REALLY BAD, RIP ROARING STINKO, to be counted as bad. Mediocre or normal bad is considered good in the Bizarro universe of the Mets.

Hard to say as it was very quick and must have involved a "magic word". It was on an attempted force play with the throw from David coming on the 1B base side of 2nd pulling Castillo almost off the bag. He had the ball in his glove, but it momentarilty bobbled around in his glove. When it was firmly secured, the runner had reached 2nd. Gary and Keith said clearly safe. Luis started to complain and Jerry came out of the dugout. By the time Jerry reached the foul line, Luis was already ejected. Either very short fuse by the ump or a "magc word" invoked by Luis. Probably the latter but no way to know. That's how I remember it happening.

I didn't get to watch the game until the 4th inning had started. Did Castillo deserve to get tossed? We now have to go play the Astros with this Bernazard thing hanging over the clubhouse. This stinks.
