I hope Niese does well, mainly because it would give the Mets two dependable lefties in their rotation. And no, Ollie is not the other lefty I’m referring to.

I agree with Mack. Niese may not have great stuff, but he should easily secure the SP5 spot next season.

At this point in the season, and with the standings being what they are, I really don’t care if throws a perfect game, or gives up four in three innings.

The important thing is he is now in Queens and the staff there will have the opportunity to hopefully work with him the rest of the season.

2009 is not Jon Niese’s year. But, the groundwork can be done now for a successful career from 2010 and beyond.

Johan Santana is set at SP1.

Niese can secure the SP5 with a decent 5-7 starts this year.

It’s the SP2-4 that’s the problem.
