Great article. Really enjoyed remembering the great catches that AG made that day. Also remembered that he made them for the best team the Mets ever had.

Thanks for the kind words, maskman.

I actually have Game 4 of the 69 Series on DVD. Part of a box set entitled 'Six Essential Games at Shea Stadium.' It's a great game. IT was ironic that during the broadcast, the annoucers mentioned several times that Seaver was struggling a bit with his control. What??? Seaver struggling with his control was better than most guys when they are at their best.

I figured that since we are all having a rough time this season with our beloeved team, maybe some good memories would be a welcome change.

Thanks for the compliments, Ed. I think that sometimes many of the guys from 69 are unfairly forgotten or overshadowed by the 86 team. Then again, it is 40 years ago--Long time.

Tie Dyed, Congratulations on a truly outstanding article! You brought back many memories of '69. I have been fortunate to have seen all the catches you mentioned: Mays, Amoros, the 2 Agee catches in Game 3, and the Gionfrido catch (although only on film). One of the losses of Shea's destruction is the mark of the spot where that HR hit in the LF Upper Deck is gone forever and resides only in the memories of Mets fans. The only WS game that I have ever been able to attend was Game 4 of 1969, a tremendous pitching performance by Seaver highlighted by the Swoboda catch. Thank you for the wonderful story of Tommie Agee and thank you for rekindling the wonderful memories that go with it. I do have his autographed 8x10 glossy in my collection with other Amazin's memorabilia. '69 will always be special: the year when the Mets rose to the top of the baseball world for the first time.

Great post Rob, I am really digging these 1969 pieces. Tommy Agee was such a big part of that miracle season, and he was such a great person off the field too. I used to have an autographed card of his, that he signed at a card show. Wish I knew what happened to it.

Game 3: 2000 World Series - Robin Venture leads off the 2nd inning with a HR. He should have batted leadoff that day and the streak would be alive.
