Four Mets Selected As 2009 NL All Stars! (4 New Graphics!)

An article by posted on July 5, 2009

Congratulations to David Wright, Carlos Beltran, Johan Santana and Francisco Rodriguez who were each named to the National League All-Star team on Sunday.

Both Wright and Beltran were voted in as National League starters by the fans, while Santana and K-Rod were selected by Phillies manager Charlie Manuel.

For the third time in four years, David Wright will start at third base and represent the Mets in the All-Star Game on July 14. Last year was selected as an injury replacement for Chipper Jones. Wright has led the league in batting (.334) and on-base percentage (.415) for most of the year and has 23 doubles and 20 stolen bases.

Carlos Beltran was voted in for the fifth time in six years, but is not expected to play due to a bone bruise in his knee. Beltran was among the league leaders in several categories before he went on the DL, and was leading the Mets in homeruns, runs, RBIs, and OPS.

For starting pitcher Johan Santana it is his fourth All Star game. He is coming off a tough month in June. but was the most dominant pitcher in the league for the first two months of the season. Currently he sports a 3.34 ERA and 9-6 record. In 102 innings pitched he has 104 strikeouts.

Frankie Rodriguez will also appear in his fourth All Star Game and is having a solid debut season with the New York Mets. He has 21 saves, a 1.59 ERA and he is holding opposing hitters to a .174 batting average.
